Ooh, Harry Turtledove's alternate-history WW2 was lauded by my dad when I was young.  He talked up the idea of the Big Bertha, which maybe encouraged my interest in massive cannons.

As if everyone doesn't love cannons.

In case you're looking for it, that would probably (since I don't remember Dora showing up in any of his other alt-WW2s) be the Worldwar/Colonization/Homeward Bound series involving an alien invasion in 1942. Which is also the first one of his series that I went through on audiobook, so I know that all seven books are on Audible.

Honor Harrington is the best space opera series in existence. Bar none.

The cover art is hilariously bad, though.

What? You don't think the Star Empire of Manticore's war against Honor Harrington's Giant Disembodied Head is properly displayed?

The cover art seems pretty badass from my cursory img-googling

Yes, thank you!  I could probably have found it, but only thought of it in a sentimental moment, and you saved me a lot of trouble (:

Quick audiobook aside, the night angel series is really good. Like, I don't even want to read the books thanks to the fact they hired voiceactors for the characters and had sound effects over the narration.

They do that alot. Sometimes Nimitz is perched about looking like he just had botox.

And even when Honor's shown as an actual person doing actual person things like captaining or swordfighting, she looks like a different person on each book. That's the annoying bit - once they started showing her consistently, they decided she just needed to be a Space Head. Going by comments I've seen elsewhere, Weber isn't too happy with the cover artists he's had for some reason.

As bizarre as the covers are, however, the strangest thing I've seen is my paperback copy of Honor Among Enemies. For some reason, the first two thirds of the book include a flipbook of an exploding starship in the upper right corner. It isn't even an Honorverse-style starship.

That is weird. My edition does not have that. I sort of wish it did. Also, Pavel Young is basically the worst human being ever.

You should check out his book where space wolves invade. I forget the name of it. It starts off good (the descriptions of the alien psychologies is particularly interesting) then takes such a comically nonsensical nosedive that you start getting Shyamalan readings on the WTF-o-scope. I still enjoyed it though.

Spoiler: Actual spoiler (click to show/hide)

Anyway I wasn't terrified like, at all today, so I guess I go to the tangent penalty box.

This is very odd. It posted my edit as a new post.
The edit button is right next to the quote button, so it might have been user error. But scriver had the same thing literally right after you. So unless he was making a joke, that's weird. :v

I'm going to open it

Xykon, 11:40 PM

You're not confusing the sonic songs for the mansion party song

11:43 PM
You glorious son of a bitch
well played (y)

Xykon, 11:43 PM
I always win

11:43 PM

Xykon, 11:44 PM
This is IRL shitposting

yes
Fucking Elan spoiled it

11:44 PM
No he executed it perfectly

Xykon, 11:44 PM
Fantastic

11:45 PM
I was sure he was right outside my door, right, so I busted it open

Vaarsuvius, 11:45 PM
good

11:45 PM
and he had even turned the downstairs lights off, which he never does

Xykon, 11:45 PM
Go on

11:45 PM
all lights were off, which is uncanny, only happens when I'm alone
So I'm like... "Elan, hey!" and nothing...
SPRINKLES fucking runs out of Elan's room

Xykon, 11:46 PM
(laugh)

Vaarsuvius, 11:46 PM
oh good sprinkles got Xykon's pm

Xykon, 11:46 PM
He's a good boy

11:46 PM
"hey buddy!". .... did I leave a fucking video on?  With a 20 second interval?  I don't think the moon video was like that...
No, wait, something's up.
I dashed toward the guest room.
no... it was empty.  There was no one home.  Maybe Vaarsuvius hacked me???
I turn around, and there's a wrong shape in the bathroom.
I advanced on it, and recoiled only slightly when Elan revealed himself
WELL FUCKING PLAYED

Xykon, 11:48 PM
Elan claimed you searched the entire house

11:49 PM
I didn't go downstairs, but I did search all the upstairs arguably

I mean... I did peer over the damn stairs so fair enough

Xykon, 11:49 PM
oh and if it wasn't clear already I found the opening time loop music for the mansion

It's more that NeoSkype makes it really hard to quote things in a legible manner, so I did what I could accepted that format.  I replaced names to protect the fricken perpetrators, and shared it.

If it's too unclear...  And yeah, it's very unclear...
