I don't actually have debt. My parents paid for my education (in a private uni)

For that matter most people I know back home went to public unis which are subsidized, so mostly they don't have debt either.  I didnt meet anyone with student debt till I came to Ireland

There is no universal minimum wage, but there are "agreed-upon industry standards" for various branches. Also the wage-haggling on hiring that happens in the states more or less doesn't exist here, what with how difficult it is to cheat someone out of the publicly-viewable wage that everyone else is clearly getting.
This is some good idea, we need some of that idea in the States

It's socialism though

*shrug* I have a pretty ludicrous wage (I'm fairly sure that higher than I would in Norway) but I find those rental prices as ruinous.

If it's anything like in Sweden (and while I know Norway has a higher cost of living that Sweden, they're also fundamentally less privatised) it's because the government completely gave up building affordable housing decades ago and just said "the private sector will handle it". After which the private sector proceeded to just build housing affordable to the upper class for decades and then going "why won't poor people pay for things they can't afford, (and also the state needs to give us more handouts)" while the general populace is saddled with increasing debts just to have somewhere to live and the housing bubble expands and expands and expands and yeah it's about to burst soon.

Same in my portion of the US, except the government is subsidizing the developers building expensive housing and calling it "affordable." I've seen "affordable" apartments that cost what I make a month.

Oh yeah, I hear that: in Sweden "let the private market handle it" definitely translates to "instead of using tax funds to have the government oversee things, use tax money to fund private business and let them be completely irresponsible and inefficient with the money" as well. The Swedish state has basically been stripped of faculty to the point if not being able to conduct itself as a state any longer. It's one of modern Sweden's biggest issues.

There was a car ad on the TV just now that mostly consisted of a montage of horrific mishaps involving cable management, including some real doozies like tipping coffee onto a laptop or dragging one off a table after falling asleep with your headphones on. Argh.
That was hard to watch.
