Anyway Akura, just get some off brand Metamucil, it'll fix up your problem real good. Well, it does for me at least. The stuff I use looks kinda like this:

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

You just pour it into some water and drink it. Just be sure to promptly drink it before it has time to mix with the water. I MEAN IT! DRINK IT QUICK BEFORE IT MIXES WITH THE WATER! CHUG LIKE YOUR LIFE DEPENDS ON IT! IT'LL GELATINIZE AND BECOME IMPOSSIBLE TO DRINK IF YOU LET IT MIX! Then make sure that whatever glass you used to drink it is completely clean of any residue. I MEAN IT! WASH THAT GLASS FUCKING SPOTLESS! THIS SHIT IS SO HARD TO CLEAN IF YOU LET IT GELATINIZE!

Other than that, I couldn't be happier with the result.

That's what I bought today, which, as I mentioned in the WTF thread, had a warning label about lead which I didn't see until after I bought it.

I mean, can you get the lead-free version? Or is the taste just irresistible?

As near as I can tell from a quick look, there might not be a lead free version -- the lead's coming from contamination involved with some of the plant based stuff that's used to make the junk. They're not adding lead intentionally, it's coming in through one of the other (apparently key) ingredients.

E: Like, more specifically, the problem is the psyllium fiber -- metamucil, and anything offbrand from it, is specifically a psyllium fiber supplement. It's apparently inherent to growing the plant in question, you basically can't have lead free metamucil unless you can figure out how to make psyllium that doesn't soak up heavy metals. So... y'know, heh. You don't want offbrand, you want different supplement entirely, at a minimum.

That's... extremely troubling. I've never heard of psyllium husk having lead in it naturally, absolutely nothing on the packaging of the bottle of stuff I have implies it has lead in it, but then again it could be made by a bunch of lying shitheads.

I'm really concerned, I've consumed a lot of this shit.

Yeah, probably check into it. Warning labels vary by region, what's worth a warning in one place might not see it in another. The quick googling I did mentioned that checks on various psyllium husk products found it was fairly common for there to be noticeable (and noticeably more than is considered healthy by some health organizations) amounts of lead, among other things, in husk products.

You come off caffeine and/or start on an SSRI?

The former is because caffeine stimulates your bowels and after a while they adapt. You quit and suddenly your bowels stop working. The latter's because the bowels are serotonin controlled (Which at least one intestinal parasite takes advantage of to cause diarrhoea) so SSRIs can cause diarrhoea or constipation. I had to start on an osmotic laxative when I first went on one.

No, it happened out of the blue one day.

Spoiler: More squicky stuff (click to show/hide)

I know I should see a doctor, but the last few times I saw one for very minor things, I was blindsided by bills in the hundreds of dollars despite insurance. Similarly, a few years ago, my mom had to pay tens of thousands for something not-so-minor, then got blindsided by tens of thousands in bills for the same thing years later. She managed to negotiate those away to something much smaller, but she would have had to pay if she didn't.

Compared to what? C++ isn't really that bad.

(My personal pain points are all scripted languages, which don't tell you have problems until you try to run the program... runtime is the most expensive place to find bugs!)

It was technically C++ as a scripting language for an already compiled program, that might be my problem.

I personally love C++, but using it as a scripting language sounds like a very poor choice. However, with access to such a powerful language the solution is clearly to script a parser, assembler, and runtime for your own new scripting language within the scripting language (or re-implement a well-loved classic for your coworkers and employer to enjoy, such as TECO or INTERCAL).
