Wham! Another siege. Population down to 28, the whole fort is miasma, vomit, and ghosts. A child apparently threw itself into the chasm at the second bridge. Fell 23 z-levels down, straight into my mining installation. Child bits everywhere, the mother went berzerk and was put down by my vampire speardwarf via a *steel spear* to the heart.

God, I love this game.

I fell asleep face-down, with my arm under a pillow and my head right above where my arm was. I ended up cutting off my arm's blood for so long that I literally could not move or feel my arm for half a minute after I woke up. It's kinda scary to hit yourself in the head with your own limp, numb hand.

I've got sense of terror, the kind of existential dread that drives people to suicide because everything is virtually meaningless; of course I am not driven to suicide because of simple knowledge as I believe no knowledge should drive you to suicide except maybe finding out you just got caught in a revolving spiral of incestuous affairs that Oedipus would find disgusting. Moving on, humanity will eventually go around making something that will be superior to us in every way. Something machine, something biological, something digital - the details don't really matter much. We will probably create something that can cross the stars where we cannot and we will pass down the evolutionary torch, the human race finally succumbing to the eventual extinction that faces every species. Maybe we can hold onto our collective pride at having been Gods for a blink of an eye.
I don't know how to feel about that. I have an impregnable moral code which I would suppose would make me a moral person were not so many of the codes at times conflicting, would I be driven to furthering my own survival and humanity's survival, dragging and kicking down to my last dying breath? Would I willingly watch and enjoy the last moments of living in this world as we know it, doing my best to give them a better chance were I to have the capabilities?
Kinda sobering that today the prototypes for humanity's replacements could be being worked on as we speak. Perhaps an advanced military computer, or ivory tower research project. Maybe deep in the bowels of Valve HQ HL3 has been completed yet will never be released until humanity is ready to accept it into the world.

Ah, a wonderful world we live in. Born too late to explore the old world, too early to explore space; I endure the twilight between ages. All in all whatever this future holds for us it will be a lot more exciting than people give it credit for.
