Complex Towns

In the first version of DF I played, the towns included inns, town halls, houses, and other such specialized structures, and the civvies moved all over the place, going to their respective homes at night. In my new version, they are basically just a few identical buildings loaded with random civilians who barely move at all. Wondering if someone could explain if its a design decision or if the version had a pre-installed mod or what? Thanks!

Inns and halls are out for now, and you can find stores in towns (yellow squares on the map).

Most of the houses are like that because they're what you call "sprawl".

It's a placeholder, replacing the previous, worse, placeholder, for the new and improved adventure mode that's developing right now.
