For no reason I can discern, my game has become fucked:

I even reinstalled it, and the problem persists. Why are all the buildings replaced with silhouettes?

Will be up for a game of this after Crimbo, when I'm able to get the Transport Tycoon Deluxe program that OpenTTD relies on back to my uni flat. I must warn you, however - I am incredibly crap at this game. I mean, I can outbox average AI's, but that's it.

Hmm... personally I think we should get rid of that mod that has people go to specific destinations, but that's just me....

well it kinda awesome.
I linked 14 towns, and since they keep transfering everywhere through varios hud-towns, the hud-towns get more people in the station waiting then are in the freaken town.
My biggest city is almost 2K, but my station holds over 3K people in it.. just waiting. I watched it for a couple minutes and there was always a train in the station picking up/dropping off people. Doesn't seem like that much? Well i have trains CONSTANTLY in the station unloading/loading those people. 3% of the world population is in the station 24/7, and they are freaken moving.. EVERYWHERE.
I make 9/10 my income in freaken transfers, rather then destinations, i run 1/2 my trains at a loss to make the other 1/2 make huge amounts in transfers. Its weird..

In my hub-cities combined, around 10% of the world pop is sitting and waiting for a train.

I had a line of 3 towns, and the two furthest towns never wanted to send anyone to the other farthest town, only to the middle one... Was I just doing something wrong?

i would guess so, the connecting of 3 small towns wouldn't give you that much transfers.
It was only when i hit around 6+ towns that transfers started to become noticable. Then everyone town i added jumped every town it was connected to via transfers.
i am at 16 connected towns now. [with 4 or so major huds]

Without the transfers transfering populaces with trains is difficult to make money between small towns.
It would be a lot easier to do in the modern era.

...also i accomplished it with a steady 500K/year income from industries while i built up this network of cities that only started making signifcant money around 10+ towns connected.

So, instead of 'unload cargo' you're supposed to do 'transfer cargo' ?

no, you still do it like normal. Its just the people instead of "vanishing" stay in the station and wait for the next train.
..i think sometimes they don't get off/on your train to, if its going somewhere they dont want to go to.

The biggest train-hub hit 5k passengers waiting... its only a 2k size city
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

ah well, think im done for the day, so my train-passenger service can slowly die.

I think it'll be alright. There will always be passengers, where industries can die. Not to mention you only have competition from Charmander. Lovecock has been going through some spikes lately, so I'm still iffy on them.

I'd join the server but I don't know if I want to do the cargodist passenger thing, it's cool for large multiplayer things but in small singleplayer attempts, won't my vehicles end up full of passengers that want to go somewhere I don't service? Do passengers make any attempt to not get on vehicles that are going somewhere they don't want to go?
