I'm not sure if I'm going to join the server yet, I can hardly break even even when things are fresh. So is advertising the only way to increase ratings?
Supposedly keeping the station active and not accumulating goods is a way to do it, but it contrasts with the idea of large trains. A fleet of smaller trains so the ratings keep high and each train is filled seems to work better in vanilla. A better idea would be to have a bus station in the middle of a large city that is connected to a train station on the outskirts, with the buses ferrying passengers to the train station. It'll keep the station full of people so the train can make a profit.

I would bet money Andrew has edited things retroactively, except I can't prove anything because it was edited retroactively.

Yeah, Activity helps ratings. But its still hard to keep it high. If you want to join, I'll try to help you out. I've certainly got money to funnel into you.

EDIT: I go away for ONE minute and someone joins and leaves. *sigh*.

I know it's unrealistic, but I can't help but imagine little bearded babies for dwarves. In my mind, they come out of the womb fully bearded. That's how the mother carries them around, too, she just drags them around by the beard or ties it to her belt. When the father's on duty, he just ties their beards together and the baby just kind of hangs there, swinging to and fro with Urist McDaddy's movements.

Whew ok. Thanks for the cash infusion Calhoun. I definitely made that first line way overambitious. It's up and running pretty well now and I've got no loans with a fairly healthy profit. Gonna leave it going overnight and hopefully get some more stuff going tomorrow with my own money. Maybe pay you back at some point too :P.

Oh also, for those who didn't know: http://wiki.luukland.net/The_almighty_CTRL_key You can autobuild signals along the whole length of a rail. I recommend trying it out with a shorter length of rail so you don't have to undo a huge chunk if you mess up (like I did...). Really freaking useful though.

The moment the lever was pulled, somebody's pet kitten stepped onto the bridge. I read somewhere that if a cat falls more than 11 stories, it instinctively flares its legs out to increase air resistance. This slows it down enough to stick the landing with relatively minor injuries. In Dwarf Fortress, apparently, cats don't do that.

I was the last to leave so I paused the server for you Calhoun. But to whoever owns whitestar, it's gone now. It just kinda poofed out of existence while I was playing.

Its up again now. And I just noticed that, thendash. I was going to sell my shares this morning. And it was GONE. Thanks for pausing it on your way out.

EDIT: Up but paused. If you already know the rcon, feel free to unpause. If not, Message me on steam or that newfangled Evolve thing. I'll be in the group chat of the DFC on steam, or the Bay12 on Evolve.

I unpaused it for about 15 minutes to set up a new city tram system but it's paused again now that I'm done.

I'd play but there's a password so I guess not.

Server is up 24/7, barring power failure on my end. Name is Bay12, password is dwarf.

Right now the following NewGRFS are being used:
Aviators Aircraft v1.81
Generic Tram set v0.4
eGRVTS v1.0
General av8ion v0.1
Generic Cars v0.4
Hover Bus 1.0 (is usable in 2050)
FISH 0.9
North American Renewal Set 2.03

This is all my own personal preference. Right now the current game is in the year 1891. So yeah, The selection of trains and vehiciles is pretty limited, but it does add a certain fun factor, I think.

Feel free to join, If you do, and I'm around, I should unpause the game, but if you really want to play, try going into the DFC chat for steam, I'm sure to see your message if I'm at my desk there. If I'm not here, well, that sucks. Try again later?

I know hardcore OTTD guys generally frown on Air traffic because its OP. But I don't care, The current game doesn't even have aircraft yet though, so thats not an issue. So far none of us who play are really that great. I make money, but my lines are pretty much direct point-to-point numbers. We'd love to see a real pro around.

(I am Reusable-Box on Steam)
This is the original post about the server that's running now. All the info you need should be there or in the posts shortly following it. I think we're closer to 1980 now, too, just for reference.

Good News Everyone! My computer is POSTing. What this means for me, the server, or even indeed you the player, has yet to be determined.

EDIT: I've got the culprit in my hands no, and have little reason to believe the it can not be salvaged. Should be up in an hour or so.

EDIT2: Shit.

Looks like that was a "mild rollback" shit. No worse than maybe 12 hours ago real time?
