what this changes is that trains won't stop at stations they go through unless they actually are ordered to.

I figured that, but I don't see how manually setting some cargo settings (or something?0 would make it a bad idea. Is it saying that it's a bad idea that it will crash the game? Cause that's what I was worried aboooot.

In any case, I never looked at these advanced options, time to change stuff =)

it's a bad idea because unless there's an order to stop at a station, passengers won't know that the train stops there.

imagine you have a train timetable that only shows you the start and end stations of the train, but the train stops at all the stations in between. if you want to go to one of them, you will have to go and research which stations are on that trains route, and hope that a shorter route isn't built in the mean time.

That's true. I've never touched timetables or anything like that.
Somebody was wondering about buying competing companies, here's what I found

Quote from: OTTD Wiki
In single player once a company has started selling its shares you may buy them 25% at a time by paying 1/4 of the company's labeled value. You may then sell them at a later date when the company's value has increased for a profit, or buy 100% to take over the company. In doing so you will gain all of the company's vehicles, but also their debt.
Shares can be used to make a lot of money, if you buy them at the right time. Buying shares in a starting company is very cheap, but it can be risky, because the company might fail and your investment is lost. But if the company flourishes you can easily get your investment back hundredfold (or several thousandfold, if you wait long enough).
Note that for multiplayer games, you can only buy 75% of a company. There is no way to take over a rival company (run by a human).
In order to buy shares the company of which shares will be bought must be at least six years old.

I won't be joining anytime soon, but the game should be modded so we can buy eachother.

That sounds kinda like a dick move though. You'd start a company and be bought out, and it would be one player buying everybody...

Take out a million loans and blow all the money away to screw 'em over. I may even try that game with some amount of debt just to screw with whoever is dumb enough to try that.

So, what time does the server go up?

Oh, and Japa, did you see what I ended up doing with that track? I had trains with pretty good profits on it, especially the goods train that sold stuff in Bigham. Was gonna make even more by connecting to a city that's a bit more far away, but I had to leave the game.

Anyway, guys, just how good is the goods production chain? Is it a good choice for making profit, or is it less about profit and more about building up cities?

If it's that an early start, I'll probably hold off. I hate steam.

Also, use Realistic Acceleration. It will be much, much less painful.

Alright, the mod and 2 train sets seem to be playing nicely together. As soon as I sort out the advanced settings, the game will be up. Probably no more than 15 minutes from now. I'm also disabling the need for vehicle replacements; that way if you leave for more than a couple hours, your company's vehicles will still be running.

You couldn't tell?

The trains were so, so, so slow up minor ramps.

So slow.
