I don't know anyone who plays DF but it was referred to in a speech in my computer science ethics class.

I've never met anyone IRL that plays Dwarf Fortress. Although I have talked to one friend about it after we had finished discussing Minecraft. I don't know if he has tried it out, but hopefully he'll get around to it.

My brothers are the only people I know who play DF. So that's two who I don't even think count.

I tried to get my wife to play it, but she says farm-ville is better. All my other friends are either too retarded to take the time to learn to play a good game, or are too turned off by it's ASCII art to pull their head out of their *** and learn to search the forum for *lazy newb* or *graphics*. Meanwhile, they get bored of me talking about DF and I get bored of naming groups of dwarfs after them; equipping said dwarfs with wooden swords, sending them out to fight sieges they have no chance of ever defeating, and drowning the world in magma and self loathing.

I need new friends.

I'd say a hammering stern talk is needed.

Hammer justice is best justice.

And what style would this band play?

Only one person I know who plays Dorf Fort and even then he only dabbles, gets his dwarves killed, then gives up... if you call that playing.

The person who introduced me to it now plays Minecraft.  I don't think I'll ever play Minecraft until I can cut off a mans leg and beat him to death with it like I can in Dorf Fort.

I've never met another person who plays it. At least, I don't ask around much though, I would get strange looks...

I tried to introduce it to this wannabe-hacker friend of mine after I found out he played X-Com...I gave him tutorials and stuff and he seemed to want to learn but then refused to attempt the tutorials by himself (he first said he didn't want to do the text ones because he is dyslexic [which he isn't really] but then he wouldn't do the video/screenshot ones either :() and instead wanted me to guide him personally, via interwebs...we never figured that one out. Maybe with a little persuasion I can get him to put some effort into it. People don't realize you can pick up the basics in an hour or two.

My best friend is a gamer, but he has zero patience...he would load the game and think "this looks like shit, I don't understand" and close it. He's addicted to WoW anyway.

I find World of Warcraft to be overrated. You can just give Toady a twenty and be glad that you contributed to a man who deserves it.

I'm pretty sure none of my friends would have a clue as to what to do with an ASCII game. They are gamers, but they're pretty mainstream gamers, need graphics and such, otherwise "nah".

Think of it like Sim City, except with rival mayors that seek to destroy your citizens by arming legions of homeless people and sending them to attack you.

How did that go?
The content wasn't discussed, just the development/donation model in contrast to DRM systems.
