Shouldn't this be moved to the "Utilities and 3rd Party Applications" section?  I think it would probably get better attention there.

Heh, my action script is extremely dated. The guy who made the gimp script would be better off doing so as it's more accessible to most users. I believe it's also included as part of the LNP.

Where is this included in LNP? I don't see it anywhere.

In my updated and expanded LNP, in the LNP/extras folder - it's not included in the classic LNP.

Oh. Alright then. I'm trying to get GIMP downloaded due to the fact that I don't have photoshop. Any chance this could be for Paint.net?

Don't know, sorry.

Usage tip - put the batch file ('make map') and the seed images in the dwarf fortress folder, with a backup copy in a subfolder.  In legends mode, run 'exportmaps' at the list of detailed maps, then run the 'make map' file.  Finally, compress the bitmaps and lastly replace the now-png'd seed images with copies from backup, ready for next time.

If anyone knows a way to avoid having to do the last part, can they tell me?

Edit: I worked it out, and the changes are in my expanded LNP from r24 onward.  Just edit the 'compress-bitmaps' batch file to replace "*.bmp" (any .bmp file) with "*egion*.bmp" (any .bmp file with 'egion' as part of the name, which includes all exported files and the processed map but not the seed images) in each of the places it occurs.

This is where both .exe's and a lot of other files are

Add the gimp console filename and extension to that path and you're done!

I can't find "aaa Make Map.bat" or "aab Compress Bitmaps.bat".

Also, could you idiot proof this for me?

I currently have the same path as he spoilered.

Woah, looks like there's documentation I've forgotten to update.

In the mean time, run "__Process Legends Exports" - no editing required, it'll do everything and move the results to the User Generated Content folder.

So i now have all the legends things and all the maps. I'm still encountering the same error where legends viewer dislikes BMP files, if this is even the right place for it anymore :P. Scratch that, figured out to use the winrar folder as a whole for Legends xml/archive. Thanks.

Hey everyone,

Due to how incredibly awesome this map is, I thought I'd try my hand at making a more realistic one based on it (as opposed to a fantasy map).
I finished it today and put it here:
http://www.bay12forums.com/smf/index.php?topic=137076.0

I really want to thank the guys who wrote the original scripts for this. My programming skill is nowhere near that level, so editing was the best I could do.

He he, yeah, I was like, "how are we going to be sure the leader will die in the trap?"  And then I saw the 10 adamantine weapons in the trap.  Then I was like, "but what if they live through the fall if they dodge?"  Then I saw the giant magma pool.

I came expecting a realistic cartography style map. Anyone done that? Maybe a globe you can spin around?

No cartography-style maps that I know of, just this one and my satellite-style map. I've thought about making something Google Maps-y and I think it's very possible, although would be kind of boring due to low numbers of roads. City coordinates overlapping and not having a way to locate regions due to how DF handles export data would also complicate things a bit. A spinning globe would require some kind of 3D engine plugin which I am totally unqualified to handle.

I'm talking medieval cartography. "There be dragons" with a few drawls of whales and that.
