X series opinions and thoughts
« on: December 24, 2010, 02:58:41 pm »

Hey I just got the X superbox containing all the X qgames from my mate as a birthday present :D and I read the reviews and stuff and got only 7 and 8 so I'm just wondering what are the opinions of everyone here on on the games?, also what is the best game out of the series X3 or earlier versions?

I... I... uh.
"X" and "X the game" turned up nothing on google game-wise. I can only assume you're talking the Mega Man X series, the only game series I know of that could have one of its game titles shortened to "X3". Mind helping me out a bit here? If that's the one you're talking about then DEFINITELY X5.

No, I suspect the OP means: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/X3:_Reunion

Perhaps you could do a search for "X Superbox". ;) (The title isn't being shortened)

I've yet to play any of the X games. Considered getting X3 and TC before, but decided not to for whatever reason. I'll be watching the thread.

There was a thread on the latest one a little while ago, it since has fallen a few pages into the depths.

I think Terran Conflict is generally regarded as the best of the series, but the others are good too. It depends on your tastes. Beyond the Frontier, The Threat, and Reunion are somewhat campaign driven as I understand it, but with a lot of freedoms afforded to you later in the series. All of them are still pretty open-ended.
X-Tension and Terran Conflict are basically the open-ended sandboxes for each of their games. X-Tension to the first, and TC to Reunion.

I keep on meaning to try the X series. It seems to me to be a 3d more serious version of Ambrosia Software Escape Velocity series. I really dig the Escape Velocity series.

Just started trying to get into Terran Conflict. It's a nightmare so far.

Yes, the game's UI is absolutely torturing. If you thought DF was bad, try this game...
I think I've played this game about 4 hours before ragequiting.

The issue with the game is the initial curve in making money/getting around.
It becomes alot more playable mid-game

In the inital game, you start without a jumpdrive, which means you have to (shudder) fly to each system that you need to go to slowly but surely
Your shields (1MW-5MW) are basically capable of taking a single stray shot, but woe betide you if you ever encounter pirates

Once you get to the midgame though, you are able to fairly quickly make money, and most of the inital inconvences are gone
With a jumpdrive, you can directly travel to any system in the game
For exploring, you can buy a kestrel for about 300,000 and have a 500m/s ride across the universe
If you need to switch ships, by a TM/(Mothership, as I like to call them). These can hold 4 fighter, and a massive amount of cargo, meaning that if you ever run out of jumpdrive fuel, or need a better ship for combat, you can just call it in.

Really, the initial turning point of this game is the moment you get an M3 + 25MW shields, after that, everything else begins to fall into place

Please, read a guide, and don't be afraid of looking at an online system map.

I've got x3:Reunion, once I got through a few guides it became a whole lot easier. I still haven't played through the campain though so I can't comment on that.

Mods make the game. End of story. More missions, more story, more to do.
