Pathfinding; crawling
« on: November 04, 2007, 02:14:00 pm »

I have noticed that dwarfs prefer to crawl under each other in order to take a straight path, even though they could dodge via two diagonal moves.

It is possible that this only happens on workshops that are in use.

In particular, I have a magma forge and two magma smelters in a row.  The smith makes a beeline for the far smelter, crawling under the furnace operator in the middle smelter.

As lying down and standing up takes time, this is rather slower than dodging.

spaces with dwarves on them should get extra cost to reflect that fact.  I wonder if that's possible since spaces with dwarves on them are so dynamic.
