Hey everyone,

I'm a veteran dwarfmaster and lurker but newbie poster. I just wanted to give the people here props for being very welcoming and friendly. I'm not sure if it's just that this game attracts good-natured people or that it's a single-player non-competitive game, but the community is much, much nicer here than in any other game I've played.

A had a case of lurkeritis for a couple of months, but decided to start posting a bit because it was a new year and whatnot back in January. Boy this year went by fast.

I think it's partly due to the difficult learning curve for DF, and the fact that it's an open ended game where the player determines what they get out of it - whether it's for the stories, the city management, the architecture, etc., there's no mindless competition in racking up points or achievements. So the game itself filters the userbase into reasonably patient, intelligent, and creative people.

EDIT: And dousing elven villages in magma gets out all of our anger, so on the forums everyone's nice and friendly.
