Whoa whoa!
Quit being so on edge!

... Haha.  I'm not so keen on you guys' punning.  When I don't catch onto your subtle ripostes, I feel pretty dull.

Tell that to "conversation." It used to mean "sex" if one of my high school English teachers is to be believed. I demand that we return it to its original meaning to reverse some degeneration of the English language.

Those wacky Victorians had so many euphemisms for sex it's hard to form a sentence without using at least one or two of them.
Let's go back to Elizabethan times, and return the topic to country matters. :)

Yes, because language is what you start banning when you want to make people smarter. The existence of this site, even as satire, caused a sad in me so epic my heart bled tears. American tears. When will we learn? WHEN WILL WE LEARN?

I'm going to go add a disappointed face to my book.

This is either people being sarcastic or annoying snobs. And if it's the former, it's not very funny.

Inventing new words is useful for new objects or concepts. The marketing people call everything they make up a "new concept", though, so they're messing up the language the most. Re-using a perfectly fine modern word and assigning it a different meaning (epic, awesome) for which there already were perfectly good words, is just degeneration.

Honestly though, I'm always wary of grammar nazis and language snobs. It's all just a bunch of adults telling kids how not to talk, a bunch of white people telling black people how not to talk, a bunch of rich people telling poor people how not to talk, and various other things. It always seems to line up with the more powerful group using language policing to boss around the less powerful group (barring hatred of political/marketing language such as "the american people" or "xtreme"). And when it's always like that, how can I not suspect that you have motivations other than preventing "degeneration"?

its original meaning is its current meaning, it was reapplied as a polite way of describing intercourse:  http://www.etymonline.com/index.php?term=conversation

Anything, ANYTHING, to get people to quit yelling "FAIL" and "ZOMG EPIC" out loud.

Yeah. I'd much prefer someone to yell "YOUR PERFORMANCE WAS HIGHLY INADEQUATE!!" instead of fail, and "Truly that was most laudible!" instead of Epic.

That's just as bad/good. If it gets overused I imagine it would get worse, unless you are highly imaginative with verbosity.

And this seems like a kinda pointless thread, with the first post being a satirical list of banned words (which isn't actually funny). Thankful it's been off-topiced to the slightly more productive discussion on new words in general.

Fail:
The quality of your performance was not that which was generally expected.
The inadequacy of your actions has made me resent you.
I find your lack of skill to be rather amusing/annoying.

May I ask who you are directing that too?

Except that tl;dr stands for four words and got acronym'd.
