It was on the free game section on sofrpedia.com for Macs.

Then it sat on my desktop for a few months as I tried to figure the fucker out. I was completely ignorant of the wiki.

Reddit. Saw one of the F7U12 comics about DF. Got curious, downloaded the game, learned how to play it and got in love with it.

Well I had a bad computer back in the day , I searched for a game where you can build things ( it was 2008) , I got over on this game , but due to my computer well lets just say It wasn't a very nice experience.I forgot it for 2 years T_T
Anyways now in 2010 I got a better computer , and in November I crossed on it again , IT WAS FOR THE WIIIN
Now im just KEEP ON PLAING

Was talking with a friend about how the " new generation" of players are all a bunch of graphic whores. Then he linked me to this site and he said that he hadn't played it much, but that it was a cool game. So i tried it and a few tutorials later...well u know how it goes. ( fun happened)

Played Minecraft for some time

Readed that it was partly inspired by Dwarf Fortress

Googled "Dwarf Fortress"

Home of The Underdogs for me...was a thread about Dwarf Fortress as they were waiting for the first release. I just ended up being curious and well...spent 16 hours straight playing the damn release when it came out.

There was a link to the story in some other forum (don't even remember which one)... I read the whole thing, downloaded DF, started a few forts, died horribly, gave up, read the whole wiki and tried again. From there to the first obsidian traps and unfortunate accidents only a few days passed...

Not sure where I first heard about it, but I gave it a miss the first time around. I think because the "alpha" tag scared me off, but it was long enough ago that there might not have been a Mac version yet.

A few years later, I read the TVTropes article and discovered just what an alpha release was capable of...

Somebody linked to Boatmurdered on another forum.  Several hours later, after reading the story and getting confused about the pictures, I found a link to the Complete and Utter Newbie Guide to Dwarf Fortress, and was hooked every since.
