« on: January 08, 2011, 08:09:03 pm »

i build my fortress in the sky so is there any way to drop them down 30 z levels without killing them? they arent efficient enough when they run down 30 flights of stairs to go kill some goblins.

I -HEARD- that creatures dropped onto creatures won't be hurt. Drop them onto kittens,

I have tested this in the past and it is true.

However, it requires some animal and squad micromanagement. Every possible tile that a dwarf could fall onto has to have an animal, and chained animals don't cut it if they can wander within a 3x3 area. A 1x1 fall zone with an animal held behind a forbidden door is the best, but the animal will likely escape when you release the military and needs to be reset. You also need to convince a squad to stand on a hatch in a 1x1 room above.

Dwarven ODST is possible, but don't miss the drop zone...

i have an idea

XFX
XGX
XFX

F=floodgate
X=wall
G=goblin+pressure plate

goblin walks on pressure plate. gate closes. army drops on the goblin.

foolproof

floodgates have a 100 step delay which is enough for the goblin to escape

Use hatches instead of floodgates. They will open instantly, trapping the goblin. As long as the pressure plate triggers only on enemies, the hatches will close when the goblin is dead. Warning: some of your dwarves or enemies may dodge/fall through the open hatches.

Why not bring the enemy to you? Just place your barracks and training areas on the bottom/entrance level, and arrange your enhance so invaders have to go through your military areas before getting to your fortress.

they would waste time going to get drinks and food and junk. if i move food and drinks down there the other dwarves would waste time going down there. and besides, wheres the FUN in that?

Landing feet-first into hell isn't your job, making sure it's crowded when you get there is.
