So, my whole millitary has gone blind.
« on: January 10, 2011, 01:45:08 pm »

No, not that they`re refusing to shoot at stuff or something. Literally blind. I sent 10 Marksdwarves and 10 Axedwarves against a forgotten beast that unfortunately exhaled poisonous vapors. They did manage to kill it (the forgotten beast put them all unconcious with the vapors, but one of the crossbow shots they got in before every went to sleep opened an artery and it bled out while their steel armor luckily prevented any losses), but their eyes are blue in their wound tab and in health it says vision lost. Looks like that poison wasn`t good for their eyes at all. But the question is if that will actually effect anything. They propably won`t be able to detect intruders anymore, but can the still fight an invasion properly?

your marksdwarves won't, your axedwarves will be less likely to charge after an enemy that can't see, but if stationed correctly should fight just fine.

I had this happen once as well, but the eyesight eventually was recovered.

On the plus side, they'll make EXCELLENT siege operators since they can't run from what they can't see.  :D

No it just means they've been in the desert for more then a few years, spice addiction signs are horrible mutations.

Blind dwarves are too valuable to put in the military. Make them miners or builders, or some other job where they might otherwise have to run from hostiles.

They've all gone blind? Sure, they were holding their weapons, but what else were they moving up and down?

Anyway, blind dwarves *have* been known to recover their vision over long periods of time. It can happen.

Sigg'd.

Supplement the ranks with useless migrants. If all goes well, your meatshie recruits will soak up everything while your military hacks until they hit something.
