So...

I'm using an LCD native resolution 1920x1080. 960x300 is a little small for me, but I'm not sure what to make it so that it looks good but is a bit larger. Any help?

Damn at that resolution, I would set the game window to 1920x600! It should double the pixels to fit. (hopefully it just doubles, not interpolates!)

if youre using 16x16, you want to use the settings that kikkimonk posted.  1280x400.

I saw the magenta fringing when I was making my font set (which I plan to post soon; some of the glyphs are a little rough), which is shaded in a similar way.  I fixed it by realizing that the game only makes FULL magenta transparent, not any other shade of almost-magenta.  So you can't just take anti-aliased text, put it on a magenta background, and flatten the image.  That leaves pixels around the edges with values like (255,10,255) or (227,0,227), both of which look magenta but are really the white or black text anti-aliasing mixed with magenta.

You can get past this by merging the anti-aliased layer with black, playing with the levels so there's only a little bit of gray around the edges, then replacing all pure black with pure magenta.

If you read further up the thread, it seems the values have been checked to be (255,0,255) in some of these cases, and that it might be some kind of OpenGL problem that went away with drivers.  The mangenta pixeled are alpha'd away, and shouldn't show, but if it does some kind of weird unwanted average they might bleed through anyway.  I could color the transparencies (0,0,0) when it loads, but this shouldn't be happening given the in-game settings, as far as I can tell.

Really?
Here's what I got:

First, I replaced all #FF00FF with #000000. Then, I stretched it with the GIMP. After that, I replaced all greys #606060 and less with #000000. Finally, I replaced all #000000 with #FF00FF.
Result:

Same place with your 16x16 tileset:

A bit different, yes, and has a few minor things that need fixing, yes, but is it really all that horrible?

I like this tileset, I hope it gets updated for the new version. I've heard that the old tilesets are slightly problematic with the new release.

Also, a stretched version would be great. Something that would really fill up a 800x600 screen.

Savok? He didn't make it, he just 'bastardized' it! (all good though!)

I haven't made any tweaks to either 144 (my name for the 12x12) or 256 (the 16x16) yet, I am having too much fun playing the new version. I have been thinking of a few tweaks though, and I may be getting a new monitor soon as well, so I will also (re-)start work on my 16x16 creature graphics as well.

However... in the meantime, I am digging DOWN!

Soon though, I do plan to tweak 'em both.

I did, however, NOT modify what the characters are, only stylized them, specifically so that it could be used with any version, as I do not know what symbols will change. So either one is still totally useful! I am still using my 144. Oh yeah, the 49 will get updated too (my 7x7 tileset).

This FONT is win.
Just found it; using 144 i've finally got a readable-sized square font that allows for high tile count.
i'm playing on 100x70 :)
