Shooting from a height
« on: January 16, 2011, 04:25:59 am »

I have a fort, but annoyingly the entrance seems easy to shoot at, considering how low it is in the mountain.

Since shots go around 30 tiles, does a z-level count as one tile or more?

Each z-level reduces the maximum range by 1 tile. In other words, crossing a z-level takes one tile on it own, without considering lateral movement of the bolt.

Well in that case, sending infantry out there could be awkward. SEND OUT THE MASONS TO BUILD THE FLOOR!

I'm pretty sure the maximum for ranged weapons is 20 tiles. Nevertheless if your fort has some hills around it you want everything roofed over as protection from ranged attackers.
