Cerria; 2D Survival ORPG
« on: January 20, 2011, 03:36:10 pm »

Introduction

This is a small spin-off game I'm making. Not only am I covering the graphics and coding for my main project, Project Earth, I'm also making a little something for the people who wanted to play the lately post-poned MyWorld.

This may or may not fall through entirely. The entire MyWorld experienced was postponed due to the lack of interest from programmers. I have been told this is because it's too big a job for the programmer, for a voluntary basis.
Cerria is much smaller, with not only half of the features not in (NPC Memory, Fauna population fluxuation, mounts, village construction, etc) it's also a smaller scale, world-wise, being restricted to a single continent instead.

In any case. I needed to put up a thread somewhere to organize my development plan, to come to once in a while for inspiration and drive, and in the meantime, a place to gather the attention of any like-minded people whom would like to play said game.

Cerria is the 2D MMORPG manifestation of the Bay12 Forum Game: Cerria, where the player has to hunt, forage and fish for food to keep his stomach filled, whilst fighting - or escaping - creatures of the wild. It is, in essence, an RPG Survival MMO (Role-playing Game Survival, Massively Multiplayer Online).

Wow, MyWorld and Project Earth sound hugely ambitious, if this is going to be like the forum game only live MMO format I could really get into it, I don't like waiting long times for turns to be posted. :P

One question about MyWorld and Project Earth though, when they're released are they going to be free?

Yup. You can download it for free, or buy a boxed version for delivery. I'd like to make Game Guides for them, too, eventually. Which basically tells you everything you ever need to know about anything. Ever.

Don't make game guides, at least not for free, learning and exploring with only your friends by your side is half the fun. :)

Game Guides are the only pure monetization I can make on these games, on my current marketting ethics, heh :P

What are you coding in?

This engine is open-source VB6 :/. Pretty outdated, but it's the best and most familiar I know of.

Edit;
Long time, no see by the way, Inteuniso!

New grass :D. Thinking of using it for the more open grassland, as opposed to the forest... quite a color clash, however.

Oh, and the Rayece plant is in.

I think you should keep the green grass, brown hurts my eyes.

Make green and brown separate zones, but make an entire brown tile set to prevent clashing. Most tiles can be recolors.

Indeed, it's quite atrocious. Apparently I have learned to create palettes and how to use them, but not how to not abuse them! :D

Recoloring is an easy enough job in photoshop, and the grass will likely look better green. I color picked from The Great Plains, see. Didn't work as well as I had hoped, evidently.

No, I agree, it's not my favourite choice, but it is the exact style I want, system-wise. Plus, I've been using it for years so I know my way around - and - my previous attempts at finding a successor have led to failure in the product one way or another. :|

I am actually in need of somebody to create creature sprites. 32x64 your canvas-of-choice?
