Gonna throw in my +1 with the offtopic motivational rant :D

Improving at art is almost entirely based on practice. Natural "talent," in my opinion, mostly has to do with exceptional patience for the practice that's required. Or perhaps a keen observational eye. Or even better than average hand-eye coordination. These things make art easier, but it doesn't lock out people who don't have them.
Whew, I've thought that my hour-long post was useless because of no one giving a single fuck. And yeah, you're right about the natural side of talent.

Here's my picture, featuring Nolthag and the two dwarves:

Uri, do you know why forgotten beasts are less emaciated these days?

Watching the thread and the drawings of you all, cursing my laziness and talentlessness. Damn I want to draw well, but I don't know where to learn it, and I can't bare to practice on my own, because my drawings make we want to burn them in magma.

Well I thought I was gonna have to write a big motivational rant of my own but it looks like thats been seen to. ;)
I can't really tell you much that hasn't already been said. A talented artist may have a natural affinity for art but in the long run its just a skill. Like all skills you have to work at it to improve. My advice is just to try not to be so hard on yourself. You're just starting out and need to remember that. Look at other artists work and try to figure out how they did it. Look at photos and real life for reference. Ask people how to improve and take their critique in stride. MOST IMPORTANTLY THOUGH HAVE FUN. If you're not enjoying the process then you're going to have a hell of a time advancing.

You should submit something, we would all like to see it. :)

Pleasant surprise to return to the forums and find this thread's picked back up. :D

Took a stab at Nolthag in celebration:

I'm just ecstatic that more people keep showing up. :)

Wicked lighting On your nolthag by the way.

UPDATE:Submission deadline is being moved to Wednesday as per Slowpokez request. Plus I needed some extra time as well  :P

So anyone who's been thinkin about submitting and haven't yet, you've got an extra day.

Grah! The movers came, I unpacked my scanner, set it up, drew up a picture of Nolthag, and turned on the power.

Nothing happened.

So yeah, looks like the AC adapter broke somehow.  Looks like my (comparatively terrible, I mean look at some of these. Yowza!) submission's going to have to wait.  :'(

You should still upload it in the future if you get the chance.

Welp, I feel silly.

It just turned out that half the electrical outlets in my house don't work. Including ones I could have sworn did a few days ago.

And now imgur doesn't want to work for me. So I'm trying with tinypic for now.

I decided that Tholtig's secretions are released through his fin spines. Not much else to say about this one.

=3 Thanks for the encouragement. I definitely can't say I've given up on learning, but I can't help it but compare my drawings/sketches/whatever, with the ones posted here. And like I said, I'm lazy. But heck, I have loads of time on my hands. I'll draw as good of a beast as I (reasonably) can. Tomorrow...

Check your breaker box. You may have some flipped switches.
