The Forgotten Beast Art Contest!
« on: February 01, 2011, 12:29:29 am »

So here's how the game works; one person takes any forgotten beast of their choosing from legends, and the others try to draw it. The person who posted the description of the forgotten beast picks their favorite drawing, We then vote on the best drawing, and the person who made it gets to choose the next forgotten beast. Simple, no?

And the golden rule:
You're on the internet. Look it up.

I'll start us off with one of my favorites.

"Aril was a forgotten beast. It was the only one of it's kind. A towering skinless cobra. It has wings and it has a gaunt appearance. Beware it's poisonous bite. Aril was associated with water, jealousy, and caverns."

Bahaha, I love drawing forgotten beasts!

My attempt at Aril:

Not exactly skinless, but it evokes the description, I think.

Nice!

One of the great things of DF is how the ascii art and descriptions allow you to use your own imagination for what things look like.
This is my version of Aril:

(Quick drawing, didn't really clean up the scanned picture..)

Both are excellent, but DeKaFu's nightmarish rendetion wins. With Bralbaard coming in second, tied with Bralbaard.

Wait, am I still allowed to pick one?

If so:
Galka was a forgotten beast. It was the only one of its kind. A towering, eyeless kite. It has a fat, bulging trunk and it belches and croaks. Its slate gray feathers are long and sparse. Beware its poisonous vapors! Galka is associated with torture and caverns.

Just so folks don't get confused, a kite is a bird of prey. ;)

Edit: Forgot to mention, I liked your picture Bralbaard. I couldn't think of how a cobra could look gaunt, but you somehow managed it!

Thanks, I did not know that. I am however going to pretend I did not read that, and upload my picture anyhow:

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

I didn't get the fat, bulging trunk part in because, well, that wouldn't work very well on a kite.

Ah, never would have guessed to ever actually see a demented feathered kite killing someone...
You do know this is the bay12 forums right?

Don't you have paint? And you could just find someone who has a scanner, ask them, and then email the scanned image to yourself.
