Which program/brushes/technique are you using?
I made a very quick sketch of the general idea on paper and scanned it in. After that, it was merely using GIMP with normal fuzzy paint brush and smudge for the flames and bat. The background was made by first making a sort of grayscale image then coloring it with multiply, pointing out highlights with layers and shadows with burn/smudge.

Here's my bat outta hell. Not quite impressive since I've grown tired of my current tablet, and I don't have any color pencils handy.

This is awesome!

Lots of images. For some reasons I usually prefer pencil drawings so I think Sean Mirrsen's pic looks pretty good.
BTW, Stone Wera, I figured out the numbers in your signature. I hoped to actually get to know something from all that work...

Maybe it is lame, but is also my favourite in this round.

It's a lot less impressive if you consider I basically reinterpreted Naruto's 4-tail Kyuubi form... best way to portray a berserk animal made of fire, as far as I'm concerned. :)

Oh YOU! I didn't notice that similarity. It does look great, though, it really does.

My submission is currently just scanning right nooooow. Post it in a few. Things to note, its engulfed in flames, rather then composed of flames. Making it look skinny + made out of fire = way too hard for my artistic abilities.

Edit: Voila, quick sketch of Irum Lobsterdied

Posting to follow - sadly unlikely to contribute.

Awesome stuff all around.

The scanned sketches are too white and bright for me. I can barely see a few darker lines when looking straight at the monitor. I have to look from a side to see what the creature looks like. Are you using any program to scan it? I might be able to help in that case. (If you want help that is.)

It's not a scanning problem, it's a medium problem. Unless very strong strokes (or a very soft pencil) are used, pencils aren't contrasting enough to have good dark lines when scanned. In Painter, I fix that by applying an Equalize filter, but you could probably achieve similar results by turning down brightness and turning up contrast of your image.

When I scan stuff I can interact with it right away. Choosing the size of the area it scans, choosing the highlights, shadows and midtones, choosing the sharpness, adjusting the color tone, choosing how many pixels is one inch and some other things, that aren't as important.

Mercenare's picture is perfectly visible for me. Are you sure you have the contrast & brightness settings on your monitor set right?
