KV-5 Commander (Operation Mars)
« on: February 02, 2011, 12:29:15 pm »

You are the valiant commander of the only Russian KV-5 platoon in existence. You will have to fight off the Nazi scum and grind them under your tracks, leaving nothing but a pile of charred corpses as proof that the Nazis ever planned to attack. The date is currently November 25th and the forward observers have brought back information on the German setup. You sit in the briefing room with your men, preparing yourself for your instructions. The static fans in the room do little more than remind you of the bitter coldness outside as snow falls gently behind the frosted windows. You are surprised that your normal briefing officer is not present, but then the door opens and you snap to attention. Being the new, experimental platoon Zhukov himself has come to give you your briefing and instruct you on where you are to go and what you are to do.

"Greetings, men, I trust that you are all well?" The balding man says to you. "You may stand at ease. Now, you all know what you are here to do." Glancing around the room shows scraps of communist propaganda, portraying Stalin as a socialist hero, but although you harbour your thoughts you know the truth. Zhukov continues, "The Nazis are massing an army to the west," he pauses for a moment before resuming his talk, "and with this army they plan to destroy us! But we will launch a pre-emptive counter-offensive, sending them running back to the 'Fatherland', crying on Hitler's shoulder. Here are your objectives, the fog has made our artillery bombardments less effective, so you will have to launch the breakthrough attack on Sychevka, before setting up a forward base of operations and moving on to an assault on Bely. Depending on how the rest of the assault went we will provide you with more orders once you set up a second base there."

He provides you with some more details on the land surrounding the villages and such, before dismissing you to your vehicles. You walk through the military headquarters, taking in the look of the bleak concrete around you before making it into the hangar. Before you stand three monstrous vehicles, standing several men tall and being several times the size of many tanks. Your platoon of 15 people (including yourself) gaze at your tanks as your months, or even years, of training are about to be put to the test with a foe unlike any other you have faced. You head off into your three tanks and take your positions, scrambling around the turret and body to get comfy. The inside is actually rather large, there is enough space to stand up and walk around if you duck down and after your training you can quickly scramble into someone else's position if need be. You pick up the modern radio and tune it in to the correct frequency, and after doing a few quick radio checks you speak into the device.

"Bolshoi Tankovy Polk, full speed ahead."

You cruise forwards for quite a while until and silhouette of Sychevka is just in sight through the fog. You can smell the burning of artillery shells, telling you that this is, in fact, the town you were told to take. Suddenly there is a screaming from behind you and you jump upwards into the cupola to see what the hell it was. A huge flood of rockets fly in to the sky from behind you, passing straight over your head and into the town in front of you, saturating the area with explosive flames. The Katyushas have done their job again, now you must do your job before telling the main infantry to come in and finish off the last of the Nazis.

Hmmm, I say:

Wait for the Recon units to move ahead and report enemy contact!

No sense in letting the pride of Mother Russia be stopped by an errant panzerfaust to our tracks!

The KV-5 is like a Battleship.
Large and terrifying, a true grim reaper to the enemy.
However, if we go down, morale will be gone.

Do not count days, do not count miles, count only the number of Germans you have killed!

No, Elitetaco! Only count the number of rubles you have lost when you try to subdue that damn Austerlitz and his damn King Tiger!

You take a moment to mull over what the best course of action would be, before deciding that you should wait until the recce units have given you more information on what is in there. You pick up your radio and send forth a command for the tanks to stop and wait for further orders. The grinding of dirt under your tracks stops, leaving nothing but a loud, angry rumble of the powerful engines inside these tanks. Looking through your cupola you spot a small recce team scampering forward, hugging every piece of cover they see. Another team takes up a spot in a manor to your right and you wait for them to set up a radio. The first team heads off towards the town, out of sight and the whole battlefield goes eerily quiet, with the rumbling of tanks fading into the background. There is a small flicker of static from the radio and you grasp the handset and listen to the message.

*Ksshh* "BTP, this is your battalion commander, do you receive me? Over," *ksshh* the radio says.

*Ksshh* "We receive you, over," *ksshh* you reply.

*Ksshh* "Very well then, the recce platoons have gotten back to us with information on the status of the town. There are five occupied buildings. We can tell that one of these obviously contains a German rifle/mg platoon (which shouldn't be a problem for yourself), another contains a Panzerfaust team and we are unsure about the other three, but there are obviously bodies in there. There are also three Panzer IIIs, we are unsure about the particular model as the fog is obscuring them. That is all, over and out," *ksshh* the radio reports.

"Dmitri, Kapalkin, split your tanks up and surround the Town. Should any of you find the Panzerfaust teams, eliminate them or fall back. Same applies to the Panzers. Over and out."

Speaking of which, I'd like to know what kind of rockets those Katyusha's have, if they have any of note- it may be important.
((Besides the ones they just hit the town with, obv.))
