It's not really that the graphics are "terrible" per say, I'm just more comfortable seeing what that block is, what that is in the pile, what my dwarf is with a glance, not having to memorize colours etc etc.

Tilesets are just more appealing to be honest, but I am against bashing the original ASCII graphics...something created with that level of skill deserves a healthy respect of kudo's, not distain.

You know, you need to memorize tilesets just aswell as ASCII character/colours, right? They're just prettier, is all. ;D

I personally can't stand the custom graphics. The text, for example, is terrible to attempt to read. You can never tell where the spaces are, because theyre so spaced out! :(

After a week or two at ASCII DF you can know what a dwarf is with a glance. ASCII rocks!

The only way is to make your own tileset. This is like how a padawan must make his own lightsaber, or how every oompa-loompa is required to stitch his own overalls.

I'm going to be visitting my father for a few days, so don't expect many updates! However, I will take my laptop. I'm sure I'll have plenty of time to work on C:Y3k, heh. (The abbreviation evolved!).

During a test between a bandit and an australian, one with a club and one with a pipe, I took over as the Australian.
Most of the swings are easily dodged (very low "melee" (Hammer) skill). At one point, the bandit bit onto my side, so I grabbed his head (wrestle) with my right hand and then jammed the hollow butt of the pipe in my left hand into his chest and pierced his lung.

Awesome.

Going to just type this, rather than upload an image;

The Bandit 1 stands up.
You strike Bandit 1 in the left hand with the rear end of your iron pipe, bruising the muscle!
You attack Bandit 1 but She jumps away!
You grab Bandit 1 by the head with your right hand!

You throw bandit 1 by the head with Your right hand!
You smack Bandit 1 in the upper body with the end of your iron pipe, bruising the muscle, jamming the left false rib through the left lung and tearing apart the left lung!
Bandit 1 is having trouble breathing!
Bandit 1 retches.

As the bandit lay on the floor, choking on her inability to breath, bruised and slightly bloody, I raised my pole and held it there for a moment, then smacked her across the side of the head with a definitive blow.

You smack Bandit 1 in the head with the end of your iron pipe, bruising the muscle, jamming the skull through the brain and tearing the brain!
Bandit 1 has been knocked unconcious!
Bandit 1 has been struck down.

Then, an Asian Elephant appeared.

Asian Elephant 1 kicks Australian 1 in the head with her left front foot, bruising the muscle, jamming the skull through the brain and tearing apart the brain!
Australian 1 has been struck down.

Then, a C-Series Robot appeared.

Robot 1 collides with Asian Elephant 1!
Asian Elephant 1 is knocked over and tumbles backward!

Robot 1 bites Asian Elephant 1 in the head, tearing the muscle, fracturing the skull and bruising the brain!
A tendon in the skull has been torn!

Asian Elephant 1 has been struck down.

==========

Edit;

Later on, after about an hour of pissing about with Error Log messages about tissue and iron...

The flying {adamantine coilgun bolt} strikes Robot 2 in the lower body and the severed part sails off in an arc!
Robot 2 has been shot and killed.

Note: I changed them from steel to iron, because they were just too damn tough to penetrate.
Note: This battle log is 29 pages long, including 30 russians and adamantine-everything vs naked Canine Robot. He killed quite a few.

During gameplay, walls are advised.

Viva La Revolución! INDEPENDENCE for CANADA!
« Reply #139 on: February 16, 2011, 09:33:06 pm »

Umm... Don't look now, but you may have to reconsider your position on Canada being a part of your "Commonwealth Realms". At the very least, you may need to update your proposed history of Year 3000 just to remain historically accurate:

Obama Creates World’s First Superstate With US-Canada Merger
Quote
In a shocking coup d’état said to rival Nazi Germany’s 1938 Anschluss (German for “link-up”) of the Austrian Republic, the United States this past week effectively took control of Canada creating what is being called by Russian diplomatic officials as the world’s first 21st Century “Superstate”.

The United States announcement of this "merger" between these two North American Nations was made February 4th by a posting on the WhiteHouse.Gov website of President Obama...

Edit: So as not to derail this thread, I started a new thread to discuss this news topic separately.

You may want to consider that Alaska was already part of the USA and who knows, maybe there was a polite Canadian revolution known as the Second American Civil War, for example.

However, you need to keep in mind that this is all fantasy more than that fact-based SciFi. Heck, the world map doesn't have any influence whatsoever in the mod, Canada and Alaska could be ruled by the Middle-east for all that it mattered.

Also, I'm back!

And, I'm leaving again on Monday for a weOH GROSS. I LEAVE FOR TWO DAYS AND THERES SOMETHING LIQUID ON MY KEYBOARD. UGH, DUDE.

Now that that's washed off... Yeah, I'm leaving for a week on Monday. Will be back Friday/Saturday, Thursday, keeper forbid.

According to records, there was once a entity of bandits called The Ruined Empire.

In this empire, was a Fortress called Ownerhouses.
Polefa Burnedaches was one of these bandits, and during a raid, killed the muslim Osmuth Raggrasped. Officially, she was a thief.
After Ownerhouses was destroyed in the year 26, Polefa moved to Haunttragic.
During a second raid, Polefa was sadly struck down by a West American in Patternedbottom.

The Ruined Empire was attacked many times throughout history, and was finally destroyed by the year 70.

=====

From this, we can tell that Bandits are working, Bandits raid, and Bandits pretty much work.

=====

After three consecutive failed attempts to locate the illusive Hermit, Thief, Cyborg and Warlord/Warlordess semimegabeasts, I have ceased the chase to find them. They should be working just fine, but they may be so weak that they're getting killed in the first decade or so of world gen.

=====

I've pushed back Synthetic people and Malfunctioning Robots for this release, and downtuned the next version release to 0.4.0 as a result. I'll definetly be fixing the bugs with plants not appearance (Faulty tile) in the next version, if not this one, as well as making wheat and such, millable in flour.

An early revision of Project Black should be working just fine now, too.

=====
=====

I really want to post a screenshot of Project Black, because its such as "Holy shit i'm fucking out of here." moment when you come across it. However, I'll leave that to you fellows to discover.

When you do find it, post a screenshot! (In spoilers, of course, with a warning).

Tadaa! I've put the final touches on 0.4.0, and here it is! Enjoy!

I'd love to see some of your creations, namely any above-ground villages; I find them fascinating.
I'd also love to see anybody who discovers Project Black, which is basically an addition not listed in the game, nor mentioned in the backstory or any comments by myself. If you do come across it, please wrap it up in a heavy spoiler tag with a warning for other players! :)

Also, please report any bugs you come across, and any suggestions for gameplay.
