Elves as tall as dwarves?
« on: February 06, 2011, 11:13:27 am »

In the wiki, it says Dwarves and Elves adult body size is 60,000. Now I always imagine elves to be taller than dwarves, maybe size 90,000?

Agree, plus that's about the LAST thing *I* want to see from this kind of game - author spending valuable development time on useless graphics.

Meaning that elves may be higher, but dwarves are much more round.

For now it means they are the same size, since they can wear the same clothes and armor. Elves used to be large for size in the older version, didn't they? So elves "got shorter" in the 2010 build.

Don't forget: goblins are the same size as dwarves and elves in the 2010 build. They used to be smaller around (which is why their clothes and armors were "narrow").

What is this, a therapy session? We don't need to console someone because they're upset about a fucking video game. Grow a beard, son, and take off those elf ears!

Correct - it makes great early armor for your soldiers, but you'll start melting it once your armorers can make higher quality stuff out of steel.

Back in 40d (and earlier), Humans and Elves were size 7 but Elves were [NARROW] (and would thus see human gear as "stout"), and Dwarves and Goblins were both size 6 but Dwarves were [STOUT] (and would thus see goblin gear as "narrow").

It's amazing how dwarves can make a stack of bones completely waterproof and magmaproof.
It's amazing how they can make an entire floodgate out of the bones of 2 cats.

No - [STOUT] and [NARROW] no longer exist.

Wait, goblinite is usable now? As preposterous a concept as it is, I'm surprised it hasn't become more widely known yet.

And since you get more than you know what to do with, what if you issue a shitty suit of goblinite armor to all your dwarves? You won't make armor every single dwarf in your fort unless you're a well established fort and just ordering armor for everyone out of boredom. Someday, a goblinite boot might save a miner from a severed motor nerve and a lifetime in the infirmary.

There do seem to be a few exceptions to that, namely daggers. I've got about 200 large copper daggers sitting around.

That's totally different - all daggers are large, due to [ADJECTIVE:large] (which is solely so it can say "large copper dagger" instead of "copper large dagger").
