... Oh my goodness Dwarf Fortress really sets your inner sadist loose. And pumps him full of roids and various psychosis-inducing drugs while firing subliminal messages of extreme violence into his mind.
Subliminal messages?

You must be playing the wrong game.

Because it's awesomely detailed, and I love the feeling of marking history... It also reminds you how easily a hero falls, when you get killed because of some lucky hit that got you unconscious.

Oh, and I love taking bolts out of my body, throwing them back at the guy and then days later, looking at the tiny scars they left !

I play adventure mode to save the poor inhabitants of ye old land from horrid beasts. To protect the people from creatures of the night and the bandits that ravage the country side. Nay, I am not a sadist at his worst when play this game. I am a hero!

Also, I can't wait for adventure mode farming: SPUDS FOR THE SPUD GOD!

I adventure because I cannot find the excitement or combat detail offered here in any other game. You don't just hit them with your sword, you cut them at the wrists to disarm them and remove their shield, then put them down with a cheap shot to whatever is likely to cause them to bleed out, so you can save your companions from their own inability to arm and armor themselves. I'm also extremely sadistic to begin with, and this game entertains that aspect sufficiently while preventing other people from realizing what the hell I'm doing, because it doesn't make sense to them.

Because I can run around with a few trusty warriors, only to be ambushed by a small army. Then watch as my heroic buddies get cut down one by one, without being able to just waltz on over to assist. As I battle those around me I can only hope that my friends will survive. And then if I so choose, the last few enemies are subject to my mercy. I can let them live, or I can cut off their ears, nose, each individual finger and toe, choke them, make them lapse in and out of consciousness, only to finish them by slamming the hilt of my sword through their brain.

I play adventure mode because !!Fun!! becomes personal.
