Lie to the intern; convince the intern that I'm here to inspect reports of unusual levels of Carbon Dioxide in the Hydroponics, and that I'm not one of his superiors.

Edit; also, why did my SMG change into an Assault Rifle?

Actually Taricus, the "Old friend" wasn't meant to be your mother. I like the symmetry of this better though, plus I should have named said friend when it came up. Amended. This may be a lot more fun as well.

Edit; also, why did my SMG change into an Assault Rifle?

Because I'm a big doofus and typed while trying to brain. Fix'd

Character: Tarran Smith

Lie to the intern; convince the intern that I'm here to inspect reports of unusual levels of Carbon Dioxide in the Hydroponics, and that I'm not one of his superiors.

You attempt to convince the man that you're just here to investigate unusual gas concentrations. [Lie Check] [2] Vs. [3] You don't think he buys it, the only thing you managed to do was convince him that you were not his superior. He calls over the project leader, a strong fair skinned brunette woman. She does not look at all pleased. This is not going well.

Character: Taric Sizier

Catch a train to Mother's work section, making sure to avoid scanning stations.

Well when your mother asks for your help there isn't much to do except answer. You get to the rail station in a couple of minutes, security is as usual, just a deadhead guard and service manager for the station. [Luck Roll, 2] Unfortunately the service manager isn't who you expect, a problem. You duck into your bag as if your Pad had just received a message and go for plan B. [Hacking 5+1] The shift manager's station starts randomly downloading porn and displaying it on the main screens, predictably he panics and starts trying to shut down his station as the train pulls in. People waiting try to avoid looking at the screens, and in a moment the service manager gets the right button. Red faced and blustering he waves everyone onto the train immediately, apologizing constantly for the technical errors.

You get in and smile to yourself, watching the holographic scenery fly by the train as the train smoothly hurtles into motion. You will depart the train at the 8th stop giving you some time to think. When you exit the train you will be a couple floors below the Hydroponics center where your mother works.

Character: Dominique Wakeman

Maintenance stinks, it has its own unique miasma that nothing else quite approaches. Grease, sweat, a thousand burned things, lubricant, metal, corrosion, and million other things blended together. When Dominique took the job she thought she'd get used to the smell, she was wrong. Today was a tense one, yesterday she'd come back from a brawl a little testy, -The little Prick just wouldn't take no damnit- and she had given her supervisor a choice word or two about telling her what she already knew. The bastard had taken it personal and had an observer in, she did her job as if he wasn't there. Nothing happened that day and she thought that maybe the soulless vulture wasn't so bad, turns out you should just run with your first impression.

The bossman came and gave you the good news at the beginning of the shift, you get to help take a load off a Red Maintenance team. Red Maintenance was a goddamn death sentence, dominique knew only one of them that had lasted more than ten years at the job and that poor bastard looked he'd been put sideways through a blender filled with acid. Still, a couple shifts of Red wouldn't kill you. Just do it right and, she could get back to doing nice easy jobs. The Job was straightforward, a water processor had blown a chemical tank and the chemicals had corroded the secondary systems that would normally take over. All she had to do was go down four levels to Water processing, flash a keycard, get inside, find the pump, patch it up, neutralize the waste. A secondary team would come through and repair the corrosion damage after you had cleaned up the contaminants. Good news is they are at least supplying you with enough gear to not suffer permanent damage if you're careful.

Using my natural charisma, and a minute amount of threatening, convince them both that I'm not worth their time.

The project leader shoos off the intern and before she gets a chance to speak you attempt to steamroll over her. "Look, I've wasted enough time with your blundering ass-monkeys. I got sent down here to get a Co2 reading to confirm some abnormal results that my damn supervisor found, I don't need a paranoid bunch of daisy planters to tell me that I can't be here!" [Speech check 4] Vs. [Will check 4] For a moment she looks about ready to stab you to death with her pen, to her credit she manages a very forced smile and replies with a tone of such mock sweetness that you think you would rather have been stabbed with the pen. "Fine, I don't have time for this kind of bullshit. You can go run around and interrogate the air all you like, but you probably got abnormal Co2 readings because we just moved five-hundred pounds of plant matter in here. Which, if you were not a complete moron, you would know. Have fun." She breathes deeply and seems to mentally count to ten before continuing. "Now my team and I have work to do. If you stop any of them from doing their jobs I will have you thrown out faster than you can think." With that she fishes through her pockets and punches something green and sticky onto your shoulder with far more force than is strictly necessary. She makes good on her word and gets back to her work transferring plants. -2 to all speech checks trying to convince the project leader. [Luck Check: 4] Most of the other members of the staff were busy with their work and didn't hear your "discussion" with their boss.

Obtained Guest ID Badge to Hydroponics, requires another full hydroponics team member to grant you access into the restricted areas.

No, you'll need somebody to wave the door for you. The Deadheads won't forcibly deport you without reason now which is nice.

Room you are in has three exits, the way you came in, another hydroponics section from which the team is transferring plants (Entrance Also covered by Deadheads), and the way into the back storerooms.

Way to go on the parade of fours.

Dominique checked the equipment they had given her without actually tweaking anything; she understood how it worked just enough to know what it should look like for normal use and didn't want to screw around with it. Once she was satisfied she made sure everything was secure, then headed towards the elevator. No one had better give me any shit on the way there. I'm not in the mood, she thought, glaring around her surroundings through the visor of the unfamiliar helmet. She pressed the elevator call button and cracked her knuckles.

After a few seconds, Dom sighed and punched the wall by the controls impatiently. Frickin' dumbass. I wonder how much surgery that punk's gonna have to go through to get his face looking normal again. Someone was always trying to ruin her day, whether it was an inappropriate comment, a funny look, or trying to shove her around because she was just 'a stupid grunt maintenance worker.' Then again, maybe it wouldn't be so bad if someone did try to start something. She had a bit of stress to work out anyway... Nah, save it for later. After working a red shift, beating someone's face in will be a frickin' walk in the park.

Character: Tarran Smith

Look around for any old friends I might've made some time ago.

After facing down the carrot planting bulldog you decide to see if there is anyone more inclined to help you. [Luck Roll 3-1 for improbability] You try to check for anyone you know, or anyone who doesn't look like they're going full tilt for that matter. After the third person speeds up when you look at them you realize that you're giving the impression of being a Scanner. Great, this is going to help a lot.  You check the time, you've still got almost an hour and a half to meet Marcus but you don't think your cover story is going to hold up that long. You take a moment to swear colorfully.

Character: Taric Sizier

Head to the hydroponics area were mother works.

You get off the Mag-rail, the good humor you had didn't last long after you sped off, too many can go wrong with family. The ride up to Hydroponics is largely uneventful, [Luck Roll 3] and after a rather circuitous tour of the Hydroponics bays (-10 Stamina) you manage to get directions to Bethany Sizier's section. When you finally arrive her usual bay is dark and cold, a bad sign, but light is emanating from a storage section off to one side and a stream of people is busy transferring plants from the powerless bay to the storage unit. A few of them look up and recognize you, they give friendly nods but don't stop.

As you enter the Hydroponics storage you are hit by a flood of light, warmth, and earthy damp, Bethanie's team has obviously been busy rigging this area to support the plants. Momentarily blinded by the transition [Dodge Check 4-1] one of the Deadheads grabs you by the sleeve and begins yelling intruder at the top of it's lungs. Your mother looks up from cataloguing the plants and nearly drops her pen before she gives the command for the Deadheads to release you. She laughs, but it's a little forced. "Sorry Taric, but as we are 'transferring valuable supplies' the boys get everyone without authorization." she roots around in her lab coat for a bit before pulling out a blue pin-on security clip, and pinning it onto your shirt. "There, no more worries." She sighs and pinches the bridge of her nose between her thumb and forefinger, one of her more obvious I-am-going-to-throttle-someone signs. You wait for moment while she collects her thoughts. "Thanks for coming, things have gone from bad to worse. The main bays aren't functioning at all, these are only working on reserve power and that won't last for much longer if we keep taxing it like we are. Everyone else is in the same shape, and apparently my darling Peter decided to let the word out that I was to blame for this. Hon, I hate to bring you into all this but if we don't get these bays up and running again alot of the staff are going to be looking for new jobs." She grinds her teeth. "Oh, and if that wasn't enough we've got some mouthy Technocrat lapdog running around saying he's checking for abnormalities in the Co2 concentration. He's spending most of his timing looking at people though, I don't know what he wants but I don't trust him." she smiles and gives you a quick hug, you feel a little embarrassed. "You know more about this stuff than anyone I've known, if anyone can help get it working again it's you."

You've gained an Access badge to the Hydroponics Section.

Taric Sizier and Tarran Smith are now locked into the same timeline, so both of them have to take an action before they get their results.

Look around for any positions that would allow me to fire on the Deadheads without anyone seeing me.

The room you are in is large and covered in stacks of greenery, unfortunately since it is a Hydroponics section all of it is arranged so that the light from the Sunlights in the ceiling can touch the all of the plants. [Intuition roll 4] Still, on the ceiling you can just barely make out a set of Ancient built-in shelves from back when this room was three one story floors instead of a series of three story tall bays. They'd provide excellent cover if you could get to them, you don't know how you would reach them though...

Fix the power problem and then find this "Technocrat"

You set out towards the main bay with great feats in mind, you should be done with this and checking out that nosy Technocrat in a minute. A pity it rarely works that way. You begin scanning all of the electronics you can find, chasing their circuits back as far as you can reach, [Mechanics Roll 3+1], [Intuition roll 3] you don't find anything conclusive. It's a big room though and there is still plenty left to scan. (If you don't take any action next turn you will automatically continue scanning the room.)

The elevator appeared to have a driving need to visit every single level on the way up before it reaches you, you swear at it. The elevator is unfazed. Once it manages to reach your floor though the doors grudgingly open, only to spit a trio of Maintenance team workers with the telltale red shoulder-marks on their suits at your feet. [Agility Roll 2-1 encumbering clothing] One of them is mostly unconscious and has had half of his suit burned open by a fizzing chemical that seems to be eating parts his body as well. As his body spills forward his arm slaps against yours, depositing a good dollop of bubbling silver goo. You try to get it off but only smear it across part of your chest as well. [Luck roll 5] Luckily for you the silvery chemical had already run most of its course and becomes inert after doing only superficial damage to your suit.  The second is supporting the first, he mumbles an apology for his friend and doesn't ask for your help as he shoulders his buddy and drags him down the hall. The third steps out wearily, his suit seems to have been subject to the same chemical that was on the first, albeit to a lesser degree. He looks at you as if he hadn't noticed you at first. "Hey, you're the one they sent down as our relief?" your assent brings only a sympathetic murmur and a "Tough shit." out of him. You start to get a bad feeling about this job.

You get into the elevator, it lurches more than a little but somehow is able to take you down four stories to the second level of water processing without exploding. You exit the elevator and swipe your Red maintenance card in the lock of an imposing door. Nothing Happens. You swipe it again. Still nothing. You try your other card. Nothing continues to happen with great vengeance. You feel like hitting something.

Character: Trol Grane

If luck is a lady then she's a humorless ice queen. It's generally considered bad practice to gamble at the casino's you work at but... you just can't help yourself. It's been a bad day, you are 800 more creds down to the house. Bringing your total debt up to almost 8K, not the kind of money that you can toss around. You have nice rooms provided by the Seventh World casino, free of charge, it feels a lot like a very glitzy prison some days. It's been awhile since but you still remember the days when you were up, you did enforcement strictly on your own terms and the information dealing you did was as much for a good cause as you could manage. Now you've become dangerously close to a bottom feeder, you have to take whatever you can get or have your legs broken by someone who doesn't have you moral scruples. A slippery slope which you seem to be hunched under for protection.

When the call you're expecting comes in you answer immediately, it doesn't matter if you seem desperate -You are desperate- and to act like you aren't isn't the kind of lie your employer Mr. Kahy takes kindly too. As the line patches through the expected voice of Mr. Kahy is on the other end, a light and cheerful voice. "Trol, it's been a while since we've spoken about your rather, shall we say, unfortunate financial standing with us." The older man clicked his tongue as though at a particularly exasperating grandchild. "You've helped us out with some of our more stubborn clients, but we may find it necessary to have someone replace you if an arrangement of sorts can't be made." You perk up at the word arrangement, that was generally the lead in to a job not a death sentence. "There is a woman who has not made good on her debts, and attempted to liberate some of our own funds to pay off her debt with." Mr. Kahy's voice gains an icy edge. "She won't be able to pay her debts, what we ask is that you make an example of those who would make fools of us. In return we are willing to forgive all but a token 10% of your debt. If you reconsider I'm afraid you'll have to consider alternative employment. You have eight hours to complete, after that she will have left. Lorenzo will handle any further questions. I look forward to a long and mutually profitable partnership." With that Mr. Kahy dropped the line. This wasn't what you signed up for, still, short of doing the noble thing and dying you don't see much of a way out of it. The darker side of you is already on board with this plan, having 90% of your debt forgiven would get nearly all of the pressure off of you. Lorenzo is downstairs on the vaults level of the casino, he'll have most of the gear for your "jobs" in storage.
