All the Half Life games are free to play for next two months on Steam, until the new VR one comes out.

All the Gordon Freeman games. The various side stories are not included, like Blue Shift and such.

Actually, Blue Shift and Opposing Force are both included.

You are correct. That was not in the list I had seen before. It looks like Team Fortress Classic is also free for two months.

Am I a mutant for liking Team Fortress Classic more than FT2?

As i had read it was for android/etc.. i never really bothered but today noticed there was a PC version.
So here's Unciv, an open source recreation of Civilization 5

https://github.com/yairm210/Unciv

Downloads can be found there, there are very often new releases

a screenshot of current version i tried ( 3.5.6 ) after just meeting a warrior of Spain :

How is the AI? I remember FreeCiv and its AI was bad enough to drive me away.

So far the AI does not seem aggressive as i have met a few exploring warriors from 3 other civs but they don't seem to be after me at all.
Barbarians are much more active and my cities already dealt with several attacks (even lost a settler that was rushed by an AI from a newly spawned barb camp ).

The diplomacy screen is completely lacking personnality (loved Alpha Centauri for that, nearly made you believe the AI had an actual personnality)

I have never played Civ5 so some concepts specific to this version of Civ escape me a bit but overall it's not hard to play or learn.

And turns seems to go rather fast. The boardgame type of visual is a bit of a novelty though i don't know if it's the tilesets included that bother me but i strongly prefer the isometric one of Civ2/Civ3/AlphaCentauri

But until now it's very enjoyable, a really good work from its dev.

Ancient rpg (originally released on zx spectrum in 84 then ported to pc in 95) The Lords of Midnight and its sequel Doomdark's revenge (that were rather breakgrounding in their time) by legendary Mike Singleton have been made free permanently on gog.

IF you never played them, give them a try, they still hold up nicely with some interesting gameplay ideas and concepts.

Didn't see it on the list, but The Mana World is another good 100% free MMO (not free2play, no microtransactions of any kind). It's also pseudofantasy (has some "modern" elements, but is mostly fantasy).

Thanks pal. I wonder if it would be possible to ever get the whole game for free, at least all the meaningful DLC (portrait one's aren't really important). So far I haven't payed a cent for this and got the base game and 6 mechanics DLC and 2 portraits ones.
