GoG is offering Cayne for free.

TOXIKK is now free-to-play on Steam.
Its tagline is "Frag LIKE IT'S 1999!" and the gameplay is a lot like quake or the old-style FPSes.
Do note that in order to get things like character customization you need to purchase the full game upgrade.

Well, there is a problem, however :

There is basically no player base, and the game seems to be really multiplayer oriented...
