Nice! People often ask about mixing and matching tilesets :D

Maybe add an option to adjust the brightness? (Some people find our tileset a bit too dark.)

What actually needs to happen to the raw tileset to increase the brightness in game?  Is it the same thing as literally loading the tileset in to paint.net and using the brightness / contrast slider, or is it more complex?

What format do you have the files in when you load them into your app? Are hey still a native format just being displayed, or are they in a format specific to your program?

Tile Genie can read any graphic format support by .NET.  Though Dwarf Fortress only uses .bmp and .png from what I've seen.  It can output a new tileset in either .bmp or .png as well.  The next version will allow you to save and load "workspaces", which basically means it can save and restore your work in progress to come back to later.  Workspaces are a custom format and use the .tgw extension, everything else should be standard.  Keep in mind the Tile Genie currently only works on the base tiles usually found in the "Art" folder, and doesn't support the custom creature sets yet (don't know when / if I can support those).  It assumes the source image contains a 16x16 grid of tiles, and figures out the tile sizes used for scaling images from the source files size.  You can load any image in as a source tileset, even ones that aren't tilesets.  It will just break it up in to a grid of 16x16 tiles.

Uploaded version 1.0.1.0!

Now with brightness adjustment! 8)
Eventually brightness adjustments will be selectable per tile also, but for now it applies to the entire tileset.

Another option to add: centered trim mode w/o interpolation.
Example: I have 16×16 and 18×18 tilesets. I get 16² from 18² by trimming 1 pixel borders. I get 18² from 16² by placing 16² at center and filling border by interpolation.
This would be useful for font parts of tileset.

Very nice!  I have never been good with photoshop or any photo programs and wanted to merge a few tilesets together.  Thanks for this!

1.0.2.0 has been released that incorporates the resizing suggestions from Fullmoon.

Dang. You've evaded my attempts to be bothersome and frustrating with my awkwardly-sized tileset.

Seriously, though, nice job. This is awesome.

Thanks! I always appreciate the support.  I'm extremely open to suggestions and improvements.  If you have any ideas for things I can add to make it better I would be very grateful for them.

I'm hoping to have the next version out by the end of this weekend.  It should include the ability to edit individual tiles at the pixel level (with limited tools at first).  I also want to improve the UI, as it currently feels kind of clunky to me.  I'd also like to look at some options to edit the creature tiles, but I don't know if that will work out.  Other than that I don't really have any ideas for what to work on next.

It's going to take longer than I expected for the next release.  In order to add some of the features I want I have to rewrite the program from scratch.  It shouldn't take too long because the program it's self isn't very complicated.

On the plus side, the program is going to become a more generic tile editor capable of creating, editing, merging, and otherwise manipulating both tilesets, and creature images.

You will be able to create sets from scratch, edit individual tiles with an image editor designed specifically for editing DF tiles with a specialized toolset.  This may even include parsing of the DF raws, and assigning the graphics directly if I can figure it out.

I'd like some input from the people who create tilesets and graphics as to what kind of special tools they would like for editing DF tiles that the more generic image editing programs don't offer.  For example "I'd like to be able to get a live preview the tile I'm editing displayed on top of a repeating DF Tile using DF foreground and background colors".

Just wanted to ask if you know that tileset assembler Phoebus includes in his pack. And if this utility could not easily be transformed into a more advanced version of it. Instead of making everything custom you would use template, for example "floor:phoebus" "walls:phoebus" "water:ironhand" "letters:ascii"... you load up a couple of tilesets by default (included in the download) and then group some tiles together, and whoever uses it can frankenstein his own tileset quickly. :)
