Do fortifications protect your archers from far away enemy archers these days?
Hm, so far I started to send my squads to the platform, as soon as the goblins got stuck at my cage traps, cuz their leaders got caged. I never experienced your situation.

I havn't seen fortifications v.s. enemy archers in this version, but I remember in an earlier version the fortifs only stopped a few of the enemy bolts.

Guys, it's not that hard if you pick a site. My site has wood, limonite and flux, I'm fine.

@Footjob, you can microwave most grains I've tried pretty easily through the microwave, even if they aren't packaged for it.

I did a one z-level higher platform a couple versions back with fortifications and a dog inside for spotting thiefs(before I knew they needed to be one space away to detect an enemy)

Anyhows, that dog was horribly pincushioned by a billion bolts.

Thankfully, now guard towers can work (with non-starveable animals), as ambushes can now be spotted three or so squares away. And for the 'getting shot' thing, windows are both transparent and bolt-proof (but vulnerable to building destroyers who can get next to them).

I think it's the way towns develop now. In the beginning, people move into a town. Then they start producing tables, which results in more and more tables. Soon tables represent a significant portion of the population, they start lobbying for new laws and regulations, putting people to greater and greater disadvantage...

Well, I don't actually know if they do, since the goblins I think were busy shooting at livestock rather than the marksdwarves in the tower. But I have them, and the throat shot on an opposing mace lord before they all ran away suggests that they're fine for shooting out from.

Built Fortifications do not create a ceiling above them, but do they create a floor below them?

Yes, they do, if something falls on them from above it'll be stuck there until deconstruction.

So fortifications block line of sight downwards, then?
