I can't tell if bookkeeper is actually taken or not.  If it is, I'll take SalmonGod the Broker/Marksdwarf.  Otherwise, I'll take SalmonGod the Bookkeeper/Broker.  Willing to wait for a migrant wave.

We have no prior bookkeeper. I'll dorf you with archiving and crossbowing skillz. Let me know if you want a nickname or if your forum handle will suffice.

Don't really care to name my dwarf anything different, unless you would prefer it in order to sound less silly.

No way, this is DF. Canonizing absurdity is what we do.

Doublepost: I'll start later today minus max dwarfs. Anyone who wants in can choose one of the remaining two or a migrant. Tralala.

Gotcha, Valrandir.

All right, after dinner tonight I'm doing first season. We're only missing a mason/engraver and a mechanic, so I'll make Metalmilita and the seventh unnamed Urist both miners and add those respective labors.

Do you need two masons and two mechanics at embark?

Ah. Thanks for pointing that embark thing out. The answer is no, I'd prefer a couple of dedicated miners.

I'm planning to drop Obsidian at present, but I was going to open this up for suggestion after I embarked and got the initial fort rolling. It's a hot biome, jungle, so we'll have to rely on magma or pumping. Perhaps diverting the ocean into the aquifer would work if I really want to stab my FPS in the face?

Also I must add that I just got a new laptop earlier today, and I'll have to delay embark for another day to get it formatted to Windows 7, set up etc. Good thing though, means I'll be able to do a bigger embark than 2x2.

No problems, enjoy your new laptop.
If the solution is a magma pump than we should use the 3x3 alternating design which avoid temperature calculations and don't drop the FPS.

Constructions such as floors and walls will never melt to magma, right?

This will be fun.

Since you're delaying another day, can I have the last slot?  My forum name is fine, and as for my skills, whatever skill level of mining you think is necessary, as well as a point or two in Woodcutting, Carpentry, and maybe Axedwarf.

Edit: Wait... do Woodcutting and Mining still conflict?

They can't be activated simultaneously, if that's what you mean. At least DTherapist doesn't allow it. I'll tack Woodcutting onto somebody's skillset besides yours just in case, although the thick jungle we're embarking in will guarantee even a lumberjack who can't tell a palm tree from a pillaging treehugger will skill up fast enough.

Yeah! You're on! Thanks! Man, I'm going to enjoy DF so much more with an actual PC instead of a 4-year-old Macbook that got *cough*droppedinwateronce*cough*.

I want in! Leave the last dorf's name the same, unless it's AnusFurnace or something.

I want to be a brewer, and a mechanic, if you need one.
