New Orleans is appreciating women right now with gusto.

There comes a time when you must take off the soft, furry slippers of a boy and put on the shoes of a man.
Unless of course they don't fit properly and your feet blister up like bubble wrap.
Oh ho ho, but don't try to return the shoes, because they won't take them back once you've worn them.
Especially if that fat pig Tony is at the desk.

I kinda dislike this holiday for the same reason I dislike Black history month. It reinforces that instead of being respected and always treated equally and admired the same we put it into a period where we're supposed to feel obligated to do it.

It's just lazy and irresponsible.

Nonsense. Now hurry up and enjoy your day, so we can get back to ignoring you and paying you 85% wages.  :P

I'm always kinda weirded out when I find that there's a particular day or month to recognize some subgrouping that I can lay claim to. Especially when it's obscure, because then how I do celebrate it without seeming just odd?

"Happy Volga-German Day!"
"Happy Confederate Descendants' Day!"
"Happy Lactose-Intolerance Awareness Month!" (Crap, I missed it...that was last month)

Note: I'm not belittling International Women's Day, I'm just saying that maybe we have a few too many "days" and "months" such that nobody pays attention to them anymore. Or even knows about them. And yes, it's amusing that International Women's Day is occuring at a time when there are a number of women literally celebrating their tits off down in the French Quarter. And I believe Carnivale is going on down in Brazil as well.

But... I thought today was Pancake Day today...

And it makes sense as an anniversary of gender equality achievements.

Is it in bad taste to give the woman you love a new ironing board and apron as a gift to celebrate woman's day?

I have travelled back in time across the international date line to say a happy women's day to all female Bay 12 members.

Aww, I didn't know such an event existed, and there for missed the chance to celebrate it. Ah well, I can show respect and appreciation to the women in my life next year.

Max has it right, it's not about gender equality or other issues, it's just a day to show appreciation to the women in your life, may they be mother, sister, aunt, neighbor, co-worker...You get the picture.
I'm roughly 90% sure that Max's statement was loaded with sarcasm.
