Anyone who
1) can't stand classic adventure game design (which does include pixel hunting, some vague puzzles, & dead ends) or
2) is easily offended
should not play I Have No Mouth.

For anyone else I would say 60 cents is a steal. Unique setting, multiple solutions/endings, quality art, & a sadistic killer AI pulling all the strings. What's not to love  :P

You guys know about the Steam Winter Auctions? You can turn useless trading cards into gems and use those gems to place bids on games and possibly get a copy of a game for free. Average card goes for ~20 gems. I got ~1300 gems from turning all my cards into gems, which is a pitifully small amount compared to some bids. I need more cards to turn into gems. How do get cards.

Sorry I didn't take the time to read what I missed.

After doing some more research into the gem thing apparently I screwed up by not turning my trading cards into badges before turning them into gems. Could've gotten more gems if I had done that first, but I didn't even know you could do anything with trading cards in the first place.

Welp, probably won't win anything now, but whatevs.

As I've pointed out a couple of times now, in almost all cases you are better off just selling your various cards and junk on the marketplace and using that extra steam cash to buy games directly. In most cases turning stuff into gems has a much lower value return rate than just selling it on the marketplace; it's mainly intended as a trap for people who go "ooh, shiny gems" without actually working their way through the math.

And for badges it really depends on how lucky you get and how many cards the badge takes. In most cases I've looked at the amounts you gained were basically the same or lower with the badge vs. just using the cards; it just meant that you also gained steam xp as well.

Steam stuff. Basically when you buy (many, but not all) games you get anywhere from 3-6 cards in your steam inventory as you play the game. If you collect all of them you can craft badges, which are shiny things on your profile (and give you some snazzy backgrounds and emoticons). Additionally once you have collected all of your free drops for a game you get a chance to get a booster pack every time somebody else in the world crafts a badge for that game, which is modified by your steam level. You can additionally sell the cards and other stuff directly on the steam marketplace if you don't want to craft badges, cards, background, and other stuff can generally go for anywhere from $.04 each all of the way up to a couple of dollars, which is then automatically deposited into your steam wallet. Steam recently started a "convert your junk into gems" thing, the gems which can then be used to bid on a small handful of games worldwide or converted into card booster packs (though as I pointed out the ratio is generally worse then just selling and buying new stuff directly through the marketplace).

So that's those annoying green envelopes I've been getting. I should probably get around to selling them one of these days I suppose.

Seems awfully silly if you ask me.

If you get the Patrician bags you can get the :weed: chat icon.
And that is worth more than the world. Actually it's like £5 but whatever.

Eh. The average trading card seems to be going for about .08 dollars USD at the moment. I would've gotten only a couple bucks from all of my cards.

Gem bags have picked back up on the market, but at a much higher price point than before the nuking.

Get 'em while they're not as dupliciously deceptive (and now devoid of duping), kids. Or don't, that's fine too.

Or sell your own gems to shore up those dosh reserves for the christmas sale (which starts at the same time as the first auction period).

I ran some rough numbers on the games I have with trading cards and the cost of boosters for those games in gems.

I can get roughly 1p per ~20 gems spent if I craft the most profitable boosters (which for me are Worlds of Magic, Long Live the Queen, and Path of Exile), not counting the possibility of foils.

Looking at the market for sacks of gems, 1000 gems goes for ~38p, which equates to roughly 1p per 26 gems sold/bought.

So I don't think I'll be selling any of my gems just now.  Or converting items that can be sold intact for more than 1p (after Valve's cut) per 20 gems when converted.

Meanwhile for a number of the games in auction (maybe most of them?), people are spending more via gems than if they just bought the game outright.  e.g. This War of Mine has 60,500 gems bid.  It'd cost ~£23 to buy that many gems on the market, or you could (gradually) convert those gems to ~£30 via boosters.  The game costs £15 to buy outside of sales.

(Note: it's possible I got the maths all wrong somewhere in there)

I sold all my cards for about $10. Herp derp.

Edit: It's kinda funny looking at my email ticker go crazy from all the trading card sales. Also nice to have a neat inventory again. Too bad I can't withdraw this Steam cash for real money.

I just checked the bid on Borderlands - The Pre-Sequel. Currently 127800 gems, at a price of 50 cents per 1000 gems, comes out to 63.9€. Price in the store is 49.99€.

In other news, the highest bid on the holiday profile is currently 1045000 gems ... or 522.5€. WTF???
