Moths of the Flame
« on: March 17, 2011, 10:44:41 pm »

So this just showed up and died quickly.

But not before killing half my dwarves and starting an underground forest fire.
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Building in the caverns is certainly a challenge, this is the 4th time more than 50% of my dwarves have been wiped out due to some creature attack and this fort is only 2 years old.

What you need is heavy duty defense, not Howdy Doody defense.

Long, narrow corridors full of upright spike traps with steel spears, all set on repeat to a lever in your rec commons. Lever operated bridges at both ends of the entry gauntlet, built above pits with no ramps out of them. Hermetically sealed habitation domes to protect your dwarves from the ravages of the darkness beneath. Obsidian chambers to Han Solo the steel gods that manage to get past all of that.

What you need is [...] MAGMA

Wouldn't a moth that was composed of flame be magma immune? ;)

Obsidian is the magma of the future.

But, for you to enclose a creature in cooling magma, you need the most common substance, water, and MAGMA.

That is true. Obsidian is a delicious recipe to use when cooking with magma.

There are so many ways to bake the perfect igneous dessert, it's hard to know where to begin! You could make a cake by pouring delicious red velvet batter over the nuts you managed to trap in the chamber, then flash cool it with water; or you could build suspended pumps and mix the two in the air for a light, fluffy cube of black glass death, draped over the now-pulverized corpse in the room below.

If you're feeling particularly inventive, first design a lava logic egg timer to start and stop the oven for you.
