Considering that doctors are the only ones who even have an inkling of how dangerously unsanitary those layers of mud, filth, vomit, blood, pus, and forgotten beast god-knows-what are...

Noooo, I was happy that I don't have to play an odd number but I don't want my flock to die.

They're not *all* dying, just a substantial number of them. Actually the pattern seems to be, live long enough to have a baby, then keel over and orphan the thing  ;D

Edit: Also, pastured animals seem to randomly attack eachother for no reason. The stray yak bull strikes the stray giraffe in the lower left leg, bruising the fat!

That usually indicates the pasture is too small. Try making other pastures and splitting the animals up.
