A child, I don't have to do anything but harvest plants, and I can be kidnapped and be free of all the weirdos in the fort.

Butcher/Bone Carver/Suturer
It's an amazing combo: I get to cut things up in a safe enviroment, Play with people's bones, and Sew people back up. :P
The only problem I can see involves efficiency OCD Overseers...

My first choice is still 40d Miner, my miners were so epic back in 40d. by the third year I would always have 4 or so legendary Miners that would also be my SpecOps team. Where all the other soldiers were verying levels of axe and hammer, with maybe a legendary level somewhere in there, my miners NEVER stopped training carving through the worlds hardest rocks. Goblin flesh was nothing to them.

with the modern setup I would go with animal trainer. just cause its fun to be followed around by your own personal army of war dogs and all their many many many puppies.... Of doom!

Chef, probably. My food is actually edible, which is a lot more than others can say, and it doesn't involve being near magma or water.

You don't quite understand an overseer's mindset, do you?

Me? I guess I'd be a mechanic, or a siege operator. Nothing like working with machines designed solely to perforate others.

What's wrong with using magma? That's almost always the easiest method.
I have issues channeling it properly to do that method. I end up flooding the fortress with magma.

Sworddwarf.

Why? Because fighting is awesome to dwarves and swords are obviously the best weapons ever. You can stab, slash, beat, slap, the possibilites are endless when you're toting a Biggest Sword®!

Besides, I would be valued and I would actually know how to defend myself if I ever get jumped by angry people or pedophiles I bump in to.

The baron :)

I like adamantine, rings, and dwarven beer. I dislike magma, water, and levers. My mandates last a month long, and are quickly replaced by a new mandate.

Strike the earth and praise the miners!
