I'll hug the elves. ^_^

Now, most people saying that would be rightfully accused of elf sympathy. However, In my case it means the opposite. Why? Because I'm... me. > : D

Making a doctor also a military dwarf is not wise.  If you get injured, there will be nobody to treat you.

Likewise, Armok, maybe you could take up a job that is used more than a couple times a year?

Are we actually interested in doing a succession game based upon this stuff? I haven't actually done one of those before, and wouldn't mind taking part in one (or even setting it up, if need be.)

Only one miner?  Heresy!
Hours of minecraft have not been wasted: they've prepared me to join this as Miner and Hauler.

Also my dwarf is a cousin of Adil Tongsletter (Elfy insane outdoorsdwarf from the hiatus'd Cobalt Fortress).  Son or daughter of Adil's adventurer uncle who befriended the elves.  For mysterious reasons he/she now wants nothing to do with elves, sunlight, or even wood.

I like the hauler's guild idea, can I join if my priority is mining?

(And I hope this is a succession game, just so it doesn't die easy!)

@Dutchling,
Yeah, wax worker is what I meant.

EDIT: Willing to volunteer as a pump operator if needed (some practice with honey-pumps).

I was looking up names for a succession fortress.

I was inspired by the talk earlier in the thread about how so many people were demonstrating risk-averse behavior to name the fortress something amusing related to the notion of being risk-averse.

"Cowardbolts" would have been my first choice, but unfortunately, there is apparently no dwarven word for "coward".  (You damn elves, face your horrific death like REAL dwarves!)

So, sadly, "Yellowbelly" is the best I can come up with.  ("Inoltom".)

For a little more flare, we can make it "Inoltom Utharalath" - "Yellowbelly The First-Bolts"

I also added fish cleaning to the last fisherdwarf but the first should probably have it if we actually want to eat fish before the migrants come.
...And the 2nd leader noble only has Animal Care now.
A. Just make all fishers fish-cleaners; it's what I do if I'm short on dwarves.
B. Since I was the first to say "I'd want to be a noble," does that make me the 1st leader noble? If so, can you tell us what mandates s/he makes when s/he makes one, and if it's feasible?

I wouldn't mind whatever gender you assigned my dwarf.  I don't think many others do, either.
I know I don't.

As to the needed jobs: I guess my guy can do furnace operating, if you don't have him down for a civilian job yet.
...Unless barons and such don't do work.

If you really have to I'll be a miner, but you can't tell me hauler isn't a needed profession? I'm surprised we aren't swimming in miners.

Tell you what, I'll dabble in things if you wanna. :P

We can easily survive on one miner, so long as we don't have too many immigrants coming too fast.  Once a miner hits legendary, they practically walk through stone.

Haulers are far more valuable.
