Viability of a Harem?
« on: April 06, 2011, 10:09:52 pm »

So, about an hour ago I made a demigod (I think hero could work too... Not sure.) character, with a superior ability. Specifically, social awareness. He had no combat skills of any use for actual combat, no strength. None of that. Just capped off social awareness. So, he got a quest from his home town, and off he went to the nearest fort. There, he recruited every damn soldier in sight. They went off to complete the quest. They butchered the poor 3 bandits.

So, has anybody tried this on bigger/more powerful creatures? If so, did it work?

I one was the local champion and could recruit a thousand people regardless. I recruited soldiers at the fort everytime I went back, then I had about 10 or them when I went to kill a dragon.

I didn't even get to hit it. Most of my hirelings had titles now, and were slayers of various horrible things. Honestly, it takes a bit of the fun out of fighting them. :(

My adventurer has completed two quests, one not even broadcast yet, and he has 11 followers. =V

So you are just a sort of messiah and let your underlings do the killing... Is that like a pacifist run ?

A pacifist run in DF ? How is this even possible ?

Technically, it's not pacifism, it's militant uprising led by an overly-charismatic but useless dictator :P

:p Guys, guys, let's not forget, I was the first one to work out that social awareness helped recruit followers...

...Well, the first to brag about it on the forums, anyway. :P

Indeed. So does it work with the civilians as much as with soldiers? I'm going to pour a few points into it next time around.

Yeah. Although, soldiers are generally more eager to get themselves killed, hence the whole 'lead me to death and glory, but certainly not untold riches' thing.

...Does anyone else picture Jack Sparrow from Pirates of the Carribean 2, going "Sooner than you think, mate," to the old guy who says he wants to sail the seas forever, whenever I recruit a soldier in DF?
Just me?... Damn.

Or you could use the idea from that thread about getting adventurers to have kids. :P

I tend to take a soldier with me when starting out, but when you are stronger, just take s peasant, as all you really need is a distraction and a way to fend off the night.

Now, if you want some real fun, recruit everyone in sight, then go attack a colossus. Then sit back and watch the FUN
