i just found out about Grateful Dead and Power Metal

This is a good time in my life for music
Grateful Dead has so many treasures!  Please share your favorites!
I'm particularly fond of Terrapin Station.  It's long, but it builds up to a good second act.  As they do.

I don't always like miracleofsound's compositions, but this one was excellent.

It's *lovely* to have one's understanding blown apart by people who actually study the legends.

Another one from the C64 demoscene. I'm surprised that someone bothered to upload this one onto Youtube. Else I'd have to link to DeepSID (an online SID player) for everyone's convenience, which is decently CPU-intensive; my phone can just barely handle it. SID emulation's hard, yo.

And now, some bangers by Tim Follin.
Title Theme, Pictionary (NES)
Title Theme, Time Trax (Genesis)
Beach, Plok (SNES)

I would call this a banger, but this one's quite loud and ear-grating; no dynamic range. YMMV. Also a Tim Follin piece.

Demos with excellent soundtracks. They're impressive visually, but I'm focusing on the audio portion.

So, after a brief discussion about country music in a doom metal Facebook group of all places, I've been made aware of two recent albums released by good ol' Sturgill Simpson, on which he reimagines various songs from throughout his career in a bluegrass style.
I've been listening to the first one (Cuttin' Grass, vol. 1) and it is gosh dang frickin' fan-freaking-tastic.
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Whether it's early songs of his that I already loved (such as Life Ain't Fair and the World Is Mean, Old King Coal and Railroad of Sin) or his later, more experimental stuff that didn't do much for me (most notably Just Let Go so far), everything benefits from a shot in the ass of good ol' bluegrass. Pure class.

It's still technically Christmas for a week, so here's the Lovecraftian take on Carol of the Bells (a song which always chills me a bit anyway - in a spooky, winter-festival way).

And here are some funny lyrics I saw today, not entirely unconnected from Christmas:

Found this song while perusing the C64 demoscene. The flute solo was covered in Fairlight's (and pals) We Are All Connected (C64; CSDb) during its intro. Great soundtrack, BTW; I would put it here as well, but I feel it's too long for me to realistically listen to in one go as one song. A lot of demos have this "problem", unfortunately.

King Crimson - I Talk To The Wind

It's really calming and very introverted (if a song can be called that); really reasonates with me.
