Don't know about everyone else but I won't be updating. Uploading screenshots is enough work already.

P.P.S. Did you cut out the section with the metals on the embark info, or did you really embark on an area without any ore? o_O

No secrets. There's just no ore. The dwarves don't know that though.

Looking at the screenshots, you have varied tiles turned on in your init settings. Turn them OFF to stop seing periods and commas instead of the ground.

I actually like the spotty ground. A hint of ASCII makes everything better. 

The floodgate's there for "immersion". That way the dwarves will need rock before they can set up mechanisms and whatnot.

4th Felsite, 551. Late spring, Slax Ciloberar's diary.

Things are moving along nicely. We decided to carve out a big stockpile for everything from food to socks. Well, food gets a special room. Everything else will be bunched together for now. Better than stumbling over everything and anything in the corridors at least.

We've all been pining for rock (dirt is so FLIMSY!) so Conflict and asfghn got working on an exploratory shaft.



10th Felsite, 551. Late spring, Slax Ciloberar's diary.

Our dang food's starting to rot! The workshop area is full of flies and stinks of spoiled meat. I had barely even noticed, my mind fully entrenched in my woodwork.
Wait, so THAT'S why House had been pestering me to hurry up with the barrels. Hmf! If she had only said... bah, nevermind.

I've made hatch covers (very finely constructed if I do say so myself) to cover up the entrance, bins for the stockpiles and finally some barrels. Oh, and we set up a refuse zone just outside the entrance. About time if you ask me. We've been lugging crap out there for what feels like days.



Ahra passed me with a newly caught fish the other day. Let me know that the exploratory shaft was a successful endeavor. So far we've hit rhyolite, granite, slate and diorite. Praise our miners! They'll be expanding the tunnel as soon as they get the chance.

Life underground is easy. Ahra also let me know that he'd seen more creatures past the stream. Two ferocious looking snakes.



15th Felsite, 551. Late spring, Slax Ciloberar's diary. Unfinished entry.

Deon, what a slacker! All he does is go above ground and stalk animals. He never brings in any meals! Maybe we should have a meeting.

Nevermind that. I just got some fantastic news!





The tunnel is a complete success. We couldn't ask for more. There's plenty of water, rock and minerals down there.






I haven't let anyone else in on this but I'd like a barracks down at the bottom of the shaft. We'll see what happe-

And so it begins.

Deon had gone out to stalk another animal. A big one!



The leopard was skulking around to the southeast and Deon was heading right for it. He was approaching it from the east when Slax and Ahra came running and shouting from the northwest to help out.



Alas...



...a cornered predator is a DANGEROUS predator.

It went right for Slax. She didn't stand a chance but fought bravely nonetheless.



One punch. After that she was torn to bits. The leopard then went for Ahra. Some flailing and fleeing ensued. Ahra's life was eventually snuffed out.



All this time Deon had been sitting in a bush, waiting to strike. He emerged as the staggered leopard was trying to recover.
His bolts striking true, the leopard soon lost consciousness.



Deon went up to the beast to finish it off. His copper crossbow barely even dented the great beast's hide.
Conflict eventually showed up to see what was going on.

Her mind twitching and churning at the sight of her two fallen friends, she rushed at the leopard and finished it off with her pick.
Farewell, Snarledlessened.



Deon's face bore no expression as he went up to Slax's mutilated body. Kneeling, he heard the final words of a life long friend. "Live, friends."



Conflict didn't take the situation with a smile.



Such is life at Foundboulder.

I.e. playing perfectly isn't fun. A crossbow is obviously a preferred weapon for when you're going against a big mass of hulking muscles and claws. In-game Deon knew that. The other dwarves did not... and panicked.

you know.....i have been dorfed in 3 forts and this is the second time i have bled to death with another dwarf trying to protect something. as an swordsdwarf.
