first you need to convert to said god, easiest way is going to the truce ground to the north and slight east of palmia, this will allow you to see every god there is. afterwards you wont need to make the trek there, you can convert the alter in north palmia to your god then sacrifice the item your god requests, yacatent of wealth accepts rings and amulets for favor, while you could offer corpes, bringing said corpse to there can be a potential pain.
you can read the bonuses of each of them here http://elona.wikia.com/wiki/Gods

Never really got to far into this game because i heard the whole "gaining levels is bad" thing and it kinda put me off , but i hear thats not really an issue anymore so i was wondering if you all had some starting tips or advice for a new player in 1.21

The good news is that "gaining levels is bad" is no longer the case in Elona+. As long as you're regularly using/leveling combat skills, levelling in Elona+ just means access to new/better stuff. One still might want to consider managing how high your Fame is, though.
What fame level is reasonable? And when do I need to start to worry about the enemies I would face?

I have played my current character without spending time in fame control methods (failing party quests on purpose was a great way to keep it low), i have cleared many, many dungeons to grind my character skills and potentials, finding tons of good or money making items, and currently i'm a bit above 40000 in fame

And i observed that while monsters encounters can generate stronger ones, instead of putits and rabbits, my character is powerfull enough to destroy them, and i have access to much higher difficulty town missions, that means if i choose them i can get a lot of money along items.

So at least in Elona+ i wouldn't worry too much in controlling the fame, unless you're playing a very weak race/class combo (i'm playing an Elea Wizard and i find this strong as a combo) , by the time you get stronger enemies or decide to explore higher danger level dungeons, you (and your minions) should be powerfull enough to deal with the opposition.

The rogues ambushes that is progressing in monster power with your fame has not killed once my character, i just teleport out of the way, then with my allies annihilate easily every members of that ambush one by one when they show up.

Additionally Fame is used to unlock 2 new city quests , Panic at fame 30000 and Challenge at fame 50000 , i have yet to reach the requirement for Challenge despite i spent 70 hours on my character but got some fun in Panic missions.
And Loyter the "performer killer" from will give you a special quest once you reach 20000 fame.

That is for a caster character, as spells can get really powerfull with you using them constantly in monster hunting and dungeon crawling, so fame is not a problem.
But is that true for a melee character ? i have not played a single one in Elona+ , in Elona they were good, but i remember having a lot of problems with several not so strong monsters that my caster can one or two shot now.
So maybe if you play a melee based class, keeping fame under control is more important ?

Trying to get the books to enter the mage's guild. Is there somewhere easier to grind those books? So far, finding the ancient books have been an exercise in frustration. :P

Yes, it's annoying you need to find so much of those ancient books giving 1 points, as finding the ones that give more points is extremely rare.
The most hilarious is that i started to find more of them only -after- i finally managed to get membership in the mage guild.

For now, you should just grind Puppy Cave again and again, as each levels of it get randomly re-generated each time you climb a stair, they can respawn ancient books sometime.
And as the monsters of Puppy Cave are low level, this way you don't spend much time fighting them or worrying about being killed and can explore quickly a whole floor to see if there are "ancient books" around.

This was the way to do it before, but it seems to me that it has changed. The ancient books is a lot rarer nowadays and maybe it was just the RNG being mean but I feel that I got more, or atleast higher value books, from doing normal random dungeons.

O was hoping to avoid Puppy Cave because it's hell on my spell stocks. Even with the monsters being weak, well, they still eat at least one magic dart.

I'm going to have to try the normal random dungeon later Ivefan.

Something odd with Puppy Cave is that i found at least 3 cure corruption potions while grinding it in Elona+.
That had never happened when i was playing the original Elona

So it's possible that :
-Elona+ has changed some of the item spawn setting for Puppy Cave
-Character luck matters a lot in what items are spawning , as my character has the max amount of luck feats and a few items giving +luck.
-a combination of both

Yeah, melee characters are still pretty hampered by the fact that they can't cover all the elements with their gear, enemies are randomly decided for the most part, and a few good spells can kill them, on top of having to close in. As much as I love opatos I feel lulwy is probably more useful in the long run, since armor will very quickly give you enough PV to tank through a lot of melee, and that speed boost is great (I'm one of those wierdos that sticks with one god).

Same, I should switch but lulwy speed boost is just so useful that I'm hesitant to swap over. If I do switch what a good god besides lulwy for a melee attacker?

I think Fame management is really only a necessity if you're starting out as a class with poor combat skills; IE any non combat focus or any low HP race. Melee classes are a bit harder to manage in Elona+ due to the new invoke function. Every time an enemy takes damage they build up charge, and unleash a substantially stronger invoke ability when their charge fills. It tends to get evasion characters one-shot if they have poor armor since the invoke is only dodged based on your Greater Evasion skill (I could be wrong on that but I'm pretty sure it's correct). I haven't made a character with decent PV yet, I'm guessing it's not quite as big of an issue with them.

A really basic tip that will make early game much easier is to realize how cheap and incredibly useful rods can be. Always, always keep a couple teleportation rods on hand. Those alone will let you escape rogue boss encounters without any loss to stats/money from death, karma from failed quests via escorts getting annihilated etc. Getting killed overall isn't a huge problem unless you're carrying loads of cash, but take note that when you die you sometimes lose a half point of will/charisma which can be pretty annoying, on top of dropping some items.

Melee characters aren't screwed that badly anymore, since only things in south tyris will have those special attacks now.

Yes, the latest version of Elona+ ( 1.21 ) it's better regarding this special attack, as it's only by the time you're in the southern continent that you'll meet enemies that are high level enough to use the special attack.

But your allies and yourself can still build up the gauge while being hit or while hitting and unleash the stronger attack when it's filled.

Ah, I'm playing 1.20 apparently. Guess I should update, that would really ease the combat difficulty for my poor fairy monk.

I think Jure is the only one besides those two that are good for melee. Seeing as Kumiromi and Yacatect have no fighting power whatsoever (kinda), Itzpalt is magical, Mani is guns, and Ehekatl only gives questionably-useful luck, that leaves those 3. Jure is less of a direct combat boost and more of a protection boost through the healing ability she gives.
