I've seen/heard Adrianna more often than Adrian for girls, and then it gets shortened to the nickname Adrian anyways, which is a bit more of a boy's name.  No big deal, just like how people named Joanna get called Joan or Jo anyways.

I couldn't see an obvious way to do it with Microsoft's Media Player though.
Despite zero interest in subtitling, I've kept on the case.  Mainly for my own edification; but I've posted here in case some people without English as a first language find it useful.

I've finally worked out how to get Windows Media Player (mine's v11) to do the subtitling:
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

PS
I also investigated combining the audio and subtitles into a single file.  I eventually managed 'hardcoded' subtitles as a video, but the filesize was massive.  I then managed a .OGV file with embedded KATE subtitles (but WMP can't cope with it and crashes!).  I suspect I could create a WMV with embedded ASF caption text; but I don't really see the point now I've got the .mp3/.smi combination working.)

I actually found it a really interesting idea Lac, although not something that's necessary for me as such. It looked like it would take quite a long time to do though?

Well I've spent several mandays on it; became a bit of an obsessive personal quest; and I'm glad to be finished with it!  I must have downloaded a couple of dozen audio/video/subtitle utilities.
But now my VB program exists (I posted it on DFFD) to split your excellent transcriptions up into caption-able (2 lines of 60 chars) chunks; it only takes one real-time listen-through of the audio to mark the time intervals using a subtitle editor program (as long as you don't get distracted by the content!).  So if people did like it, it could be fitted to previous/future DFTalks pretty easily.

On-topic, I do like the rough organization of the transcript page, that's a nice touch. I'm wondering, do you plan on having future DF Talks be shorter and more, "narrow" is the word I suppose? Or do you see this as more of an abberation/experiment you are unlikely to continue?

I'm not sure how I feel about a format change, although given the recent surge in DF talk frequency I have nothing to complain about. Thanks to all involved!

The format actually didn't change that much.  Format is as follows:  Talk about a DF topic until we get tired or run out of things to say.  ;)  Sometimes it'll be shorter, and I actually would prefer a shorter podcast that we get out more frequently than a huge one that we get out every other month.

this has been my favourite talk so far because I was thanked just for running with the name someone gave me like 20 years ago.
Lucky... as a "Melissa", I doubt my name will ever come up in the rotation  :'(

Thanks for listening, Melissa!  I think that name is awesome!  If I had a daughter, "Melissa" would be in the running!

I'm not sure, I'll talk to Toady about this.  But I love your initiative, and your volunteering to help the community!  This is what DF is all about, people having fun together, and helping to make it MORE fun!
