!!HIDDEN FUN STUFF!! lags FPS

My fortress had been running 50-60 FPS.  I was digging out some adamantine figuring if I hit the HFS I could always just save scum (yes, i'm pathetic :P).  Well, I found the HFS, and my FPS went straight down the tubes.  It's currently at 1... yes ONE FPS.  Any suggestions?

Go send a dwarf down there to say hello.  It's the ambushing behavior that kills your FPS:  If you find them, they won't be ambushing anymore.
