Custom Languages: Project Status: Complete

Progress Report

20 World Languages Pack is here, including TomiTapio's Finnish + the good stuff found on the web (thanks carriontrooper!), and my stuff, now as normal language files. Does not include Orkglish or Draconic.

Orkglish MkII (my version) and Draconic demo download replaces my scripts (these may be resurrected one day, but are shelved for now, I think they are of limited use/interest).

Languages I might try in a Phase II project:

No worries, I am emailing it to you, via the forum email. Just copy the contents to a file called "Language_DUTCH.txt"

Not all the words could be translated, I'm using software. Untranslated words are using the english. You might want to hand tweak it a little. Since I don't speak Dutch this is as much as I can help you with, let me know if there's any major issues.

There is this
Code: [Select]
   [T_WORD:tick_animal:tick_animal]
    [T_WORD:tick_clock:tick_clock]
Which doesn't translate correctly. But the rest seems fine

ANCIENT SUMERIAN!

Old English would be cool for humans. But I don't want to change anything, then I'd know too much of what people's names were >_>

I'd check anything with an underscore in it, those didn't get picked up, e.g. "bear_verb" wasn't translated, in this context it means "I have a heavy load to bear", or "I can't bear this tension". There should be no underscores "_" in the translated versions, though I have no way of automating that.

tick_animal is the bloodsucking "tick", and tick_clock obviously is the word for a clock sound e.g. "tick tock"

Danish.
Ok i'll help with that one, send me your email address if you like, as you don't have forum email activated.

Though remember the same points I've made to dutchling will also apply to the Danish one, a native speaker will need to tweak the translations (I'm assuming you may be one)

I might be able to make a question and answer form which asks the user to fill in the meanings for all the stuff which cannot be auto-translated, but that is for another day.

Unfortunately my system is relying on online translation services to do it's thing. Otherwise, it would be the same for me to do the research as you to do it.

If you can find software or a website which has extensive translation from modern to olde english, then I could do this.

So to clarify - any real language which is sufficiently spoken to warrant translation services, are what I can do and will be focussing on. Fictional language which have a good online dictionary could work too.

I'm looking into the Hawaiian and Maori languages right now. They're proving a little more challenging than German and Dutch.

Hebrew, modern and/or ancient (I would actually expect both to be available given the extensive use of ancient Hebrew even today, but programs that translate it might only be included in software, not online).

I wonder if Yiddish is available?

Ooh!  And Draconic!

Thanks for the Draconic link, I have to go out now, but will look at that later, though there are many gaps in the vocabulary, you'd have to decide what you want to put in there.

Draconic could be very cool if you did the whole file word-for-word and semi-translated everything into it's correct synonyms (untoward -> bad or wrong)

I'd use it for Kobolds, maybe too.
