Come on people, it's "dwarves" not "dwarfs". Didn't anyone read Tolkien?

Both spellings are acceptable in typical English.

However, DF uses "dwarves", therefore the wiki should as well, as a matter of course.

Noting that Tolkien's spelling was the exception.  It was, IIRC, based upon his own (educated- but yet) cod-linguistic inventions with which he flavoured his writings, although he had also pegged "dwarrows" as a historic and irregular plural form within his own universe.

And Tolkien is of course the grand-daddy of a lot of dwarf-heavy fiction.  Not including SW&t7Ds.

Also note that Pratchett deliberately goes with "dwarfs", in what I think is part of his "Discworld being an antidote to the overdose of Tolkien clones" idea, but that might be reading too much into two otherwise separate concepts.

Obviously, whatever the raws says should go, on the whole, but as I'll still use '-ise' words, talk of 'colours' and other Anglicisations that Toady uses the Merkin versions of, when writing about DF, so it's a short hop to (perhaps inconsistently) using the f-based variants instead of the v-based ones.

I agree that "dwarfs" is valid english, but if disney spells it that way then that's reason enough not to use it :)
Seriously though:

To hell with all of that "Dwarfs" sounds cooler. "Dwarves" sounds to much like pussy-Elves.

Meh, I always say: Dwarfs, Elves. The sound in 'Dwarfs' is shorter and slightly more gruff as befits our subterranean friends while 'Elves' sounds as if something tall and slimy slithered past. Which makes me think of hippies.

I'm not sure why this is still an issue. The game uses "dwarves" and "elves", therefore we should use the same nomenclature when talking about the game. There is no argument to be had here.

I think people are just talking for amusement purposes at this point.

Tolkien said they are both wrong... According to him it should have been Dwerrow or something like that. IIRC he changed it because his editor wanted him to.

Presumptuous nonsense. You can call them whatever you want, doesn't matter if the game uses it.

Also @ Op; this is clearly not Middle-Earth.

And I think Pratchett is a much cooler author than Tolkien. :P
