I love minecraft, wanna know why? The MC forum brought me here ^^
Actually, I love Starcraft II, because that forum linked me to MineCraft once...
And this forum has a thread about Terraria. I should really look at the Terraria forum for some new games :)

Yeah, minecraft brought me here as well.

It was part of its inspiration.

EDIT: I mean, Dwarf Fortress was part of Minecraft's inspiration. Sorry for any confusion there...

But anyways...

Minecraft:
Developer releases an update, primarily containing trainable wolves and a few minor equipment modifications. These features had been announced a few weeks in advance. Minecraft-playing friends go nuts over the ability to train wolves and, you know, stuff!

Dwarf Fortress:
Developer releases an update, ostensibly as a bugfix. Update also contains badgers. Insanity ensues.

Difficult to compare the games to come to a conclusion which is superior. However, based solely on it's longevity and sense of fun, Dwarf Fortress. Minecraft's fun, but I get bored of it pretty quickly. Dwarf Fortress I have been playing on and off again for over a year or two for probably hundreds of hours and it's still lots of fun (and Fun :) ). Plus I love the dwarf fort community so much more. I tend to (probably unfairly) view their community with a negative aspect cause they seem to do nothing but whine...

Both are good at what they do and trying to compare them ends in total war.  Such has been the experience for the forums.
Firstperson adventure/exploration/sandbox game vs. Top down sandbox/building/sim/management game

Apples to Oranges
We don't like it when people compare the two games.  The only real similarities they have are their blockiness and focus on building.  Other than that, they're really not comparable in any way.
But since you are obviously not happy with such answers, I'll throw in my .02 cents: Both games are fun, for different reasons, and I see no reason why anyone should have to pick between one or the other. Video games don't require blind loyalty or exclusivity, when neither requires real-time scheduling for in-game activities.
I enjoy them both, and don't really need to declare one "better" than the other to do so.
Fourth option: Better is relative.
I play both, but comparing which is better is like comparing CoD with Mass Effect 2 or something.
Two different game.  As a matter of fact, two completely different genre.
Minecraft is a FPS/Adventure game.
Dwarf Fortress is a TBS/City-building/RPG game.
Next time let's compare fridges and heaters. This thread is stupid. They're absolutely different kinds of games.

tl;dr
These two games have absolutely nothing in common and it's been discussed to death, STOP TRYING TO COMPARE THEM.

Can we end the discussion and never speak of this again now?

More seriously. my brother has this game. He was telling me about how if a pig gets hit by lightning it becomes a undead zombie pig or something, to which I said, magma can fix that.

It's because SMF doesn't have an option to not bump. I'm sure if it did have that option, people would use it.

That post was kind of meant to end the discussion, and the thread didn't come back to life until you inexplicably responded to it.

But now we're stuck in an endless cycle of self-reference, meaning that this thread WILL NEVER DIE OH GOD
