someone have stated before that barrels can acomodate more food/booze, something like a pot gets full at 6 units of food and a barrel at 10. Never checked if it's correct tough...

Pretty sure, I've had stone pots with the usual 10 units of food in them. I really haven't noticed any downside to them other than the dwarven syrup, and that's not a big problem anyways. I use my sweetpods now just for booze, as food is extremely easy to come by if you do any sort of poultry farming, along side the occasional doggy biscuits.
