I have a human meatshield following my axedwarf, and he has several injuries.

The most interesting of which are his "broken" guts and it says his heart doesn't work. I don't think these organs do anything in DF

The peasant survived, but then he got eaten by wildlife after 2 days. He wouldn't stop vomitting

No, that's when they're spilled... I think they were just "broken", like punctured or something. I've never actually managed to completely remove someone's guts, though... Time for SCIENCE...

They were broken. What it probably was, is that he got stabbed and his guts were minced on the inside.

I was disemboweled and survived, I just fast travelled away and when I got to town, I was pale but had stopped bleeding and was continualy sick until I got infected and rotted away.

You can't fast travel or rest when you are bleeding. If this happened in an earlier version of the game (.12 or less) it might be possible as I remember being able to cut out people's guts and it would heal eventually, but it's not possible in current versions without modding.

gotta spill them and they become a valid part to target.  i've bitten them out myself.

you can get "broken" guts from blunt damage.

has anyone seen a "broken heart" is it it set to only be "ripped open" or "torn apart"?

Confirm that it is entirely possible to sever exposed guts. Unfortunately you must then settle for beating your target to death with his own guts as strangulation with objects is not yet implemented.

I've had a fractured hearta while using a whip, the victim in question survived. I eventually had to kill him though, as he was advancing towards me when he was not unconcious. This was in vanilla 31.19.
